If an indie user's line stats can handle it, they are able to get the proper sync. That is possible, and that is happening.
It's the "calling in" part that seems to be a bit of a problem, for whatever reason.
For example, in my case:
When I first ordered 12/1, I was initially placed on a 12/.800 profile. My speeds were ~10/.640. Shortly thereafter, I made a request to bump my profile, but I made that request
before Bell closed the ticket on my install. Before Bell closed my install ticket, they bumped my profile to 14/.800, which gave me full 12 down, but only .640 up. I made a request in the direct forum to bump my up to 1088, as others had received. I was told that a "repair" ticket could be put in, and Bell "might" bump my upload to 1088, but they may also bump my download back down to 12. I decided to roll the dice. I got a 14272/1088 profile and was happy.
I waffled a couple times on the upgrade to 16/1 but finally pulled the trigger a couple days later.
It took a week for Bell to bump my service. I was placed on the 16/.800 profile. No enhancement took place after the ticket was closed, like on the initial install.
It was remarked that technically speaking, the 16/.800 profile was the "normal" profile for the 16/1 service.
I called in on that note. I was told that a "repair" ticket could be put in with Bell to raise my profile, but I ran the risk of a $87 service charge if Bell decided that my profile was the "correct" one. I did not want to risk that.
Since that time, my profile has been raised to 19/1. I'm getting full advertised speeds pretty much - as full as my line and the ADSL2+ spec permits on it, about 16400/.930. (I would note that while not
absolutely necessary I did run out and grab a broadcom-based modem on the sage advice of Mike2009, which did improve my line stats)
There seems to be some sort of misunderstanding or misconception about what speeds/profiles indie users should be getting out of the gate, who's responsible for making them happen, who's fault it is when it doesn't happen, and how it's corrected.
I'm at least getting what I pay for. Colour me giddy with happiness.
I'd like to see that happiness
widespread amongst more and more indie users.
If opening up a dialogue and getting this cooking is all that comes of this thread - mission accomplished. Beats eating crap sammiches.
