WRT54GL and pop email

I have had issues of Outlook hanging on receiving email for the past few days. I have talked with Time Warner and they have been no help. Today I connected directly to the modem, taking the router out of the loop, and the email worked! I have had no connection issues, just the email problem. My router is only about 4 months old and I have made no changes to it at all. I'm also not able to access the roadrunner webmail, but outside of my network it works. I was able to hit the webmail from my Mom's house.

Thanks for any help.

Just a quick hunch. Is the router set to something other than your ISP's DNS server? If so, try it without that change.

Bill, thanks for the tip on DNS. From what I could find on the two DNS IP's in the router, they were roadrunner DNS servers located in California. I now have the correct DNS server IP's for Texas in the router. Hopefully this will solve the issue.

You can use a free open source DNS finder called "namebench" that will test about 250 DNS servers and find the fastest ones for you. »code.google.com/p/namebench/

It cured several browsing problems for me.

Great! It's not often a symptom is matched so well to a likely cause, so I had to try it. Thanks for the good news - it makes my day.
