Re: Start Communications - new TPIA Rogers/Cogeco

Try doing a factory reset and picking up some different channels. (not just a power reset, but a factory reset button - it causes the modem to rescan frequencies). If that doesn't do anything PM me your account #. Thanks.

Have you tried restarting modem?

basically what happened is that the tech finished the install at 8pm friday 21st, from 8pm -9pm I was getting the rated speed, from 9pm to 11pm around 2-7mbps down, and from 11pm friday 21st to now I cannot get a sync.... so no internet at all from start, luckily I haven't cancled my dsl from another provider. tried resetting many times and factory restore many times, I even went as far as reseting it like linksys router, out rest for 30sec while on, unplug it still holding reset for 30 secs, plug back still holding for another 30secs, same thing it will no longer sync. call tech support and they said they will get someone to come over to check but unfortunately no eta....

Excellent. I am in Cogecoland and just called in to order a DCM476 so I can get the higher speeds.

My modem showed up yesterday and was up and running within a couple hours.

That is on the former 16/1 plan, now 20/1.5

is everyone getting these 2mbps uploads in the Cogeco area? I'm in the Scraborough Rogers area and still getting 1mbps upload all channels bonded. Speedtest aside I'm on the 28/1 package and get a constant 26.5mbps download in newsleecher usenet client.

30 and 55 (soon to be 75 I think?) are 2Mbit up in Cogecoland.

20 is 1.5 up

You're on the temp 30/2, just to entice you to upgrade

:) The real reason is due to tariff shenanigans. Specifically there was no 20/1.5 plan officially tariffed with Cogeco (despite speed matching requirements and it being offered at retail for ages) and since we had promised 20 early on and were tired of waiting we bumped all of the 16 to 30 until it was sorted out. Now we officially have the 30 product with the 400GB cap, we'll be moving that temporary upgrade to 20/1.5 for those that don't want to keep the higher speed/cap.

Also, could somebody from start (rogers) do traceroutes to few IPs?

Is the dcm476 modem unlocked if purchased from start? Can it be used with other service probiders in the future?

Yes, any modem you purchase through Start Communications can be taken to another provider.

Are they providing it with the latest firmware?

How they deal with the modems with older firmware?

For example, if you buy \ rent modem from them, there is a newer firmware available, do they replace the modem or ? (in case there are disconnect problems, etc) ?

tnx

This is a non-issue in Cogecoland. When Cogeco pushes out a firmware all modems receive it including customer-purchased modems used with TPIA providers. Modems purchased with older firmware will receive the latest version the moment the modem syncs to the network for the first time.

Rogers is an entirely different story.

The approved firmware releases don't change very often, the two models we use in your area are very stable - no problems at all.

I'm in the Powerline/Ivanhoe area and my speed has been solid for the whole time that I have had start (2.5 years). It's dsl 6 meg. I haven't had any outages other than a few weeks ago when Bell was doing some work but that lasted maybe 1 week and no problems since then. Customer service was good when I called them about it as well.

Edit the URL to add 20 to the last number in it.

(Next page, the 1240 will become 1260.)

The system gets wonky sometimes on long threads.

Hi Rocca,

I am currently with Rogers and using my own Docsis2 Scientific Atlanta DPC2100r2. Will this modem be compatiable with your cable internet service if I switch over? Thanks.

Hi Duggan,

Unfortunately they have decertified the DPC2100 and is no longer allowed for transfers/installations. Many of the older modems were removed in July as they continue to upgrade the network.

@radiant.net
Hi Rocca,

Do you offer any buyback or upgrade options? Or do I have to buy a new modem entirely? Thanks.
