Re: Start Communications - new TPIA Rogers/Cogeco

said by damir52:

So, looks like nobody else is facing this? Could be something on my node?

I just tested, and I'm getting 24Mbps on a 18Mbps connection, so I definitely still have speedboost on Start.

Yeah I got my connection last night and I was getting 38-45, 38 being the most "constant".

(Rogers area)

damir:

Can't remember exactly, but didn't you get the Asus RT-N66U recently, and install Tomato on it ? If so, it's possible that you enabled Incoming QOS. If you set it to something like 31 or 32 mbps, you won't get anything higher than that, including Speedboost.

Rogers users are already getting the speeds - they started going live on the 7th.

As for Start getting the speeds... »CNOC Files w/ CRTC Against Rogers

The friendly thing to do would be to refer him to the thread discussing the issue.

True. But aggregated ISPs were getting a nice price hike with them.

I will pay it, if i can get 150/10 from start and not rogers... rogers even with a contract offers me Ultimate for 100.99 for 250gb .. ugh Overage apparently caps at $50 for Unlimited so $150 for unlimited is scary i understand alot of isps are avoiding high speeds because of the redonkulous transit charges... i hope it all gets fixed and soon.

Don't expect it anytime soon. Start has access to 150/10, but with the current capacity costs added in a single customer could cost them a LOT of money. Those have to come down first.

Maybe January, if we're lucky.

$100. It was changed back in August or so.

I would definitely sign up whatever the fastest upload tier they have. Don't care about download speed.

I guess Rogers caught up to me finally. After getting solid 40-50 on a 28 mbit connection, the last week its been 10-15

I'm going to test wife's laptop tonight to see if it's the same or possibly my setup.

In Cogeco, I'm getting »speedtest.net/result/2318314523.png Since I'm subscribed to advanced, not PRO, I would conclude there is a speedboost.

It's not Speedboost. For some reason you seem to be on the 30/2 profile.

Still pending CRTC decision. Might have an answer next week if we're lucky, but more likely sometime in early December.

Start does have access to them as it stands, but it's a question of if it will be at current prices or not.

Ah, gotcha. So it's not a matter of if, just of when and for how much then?

Rocca could say for sure, but that sounds about right to me.

They could start offering them right now, but it doesn't really make sense for them to roll out new offerings when they might be changing within a matter of weeks. And paying the new prices Rogers wants might not help the case against Rogers over it.
