[Speed] 50/10 Customer, Speed Issue

Hey all, just had 50/10 installed today and seeing about 35/11 so far on speeds to the nearest server. Seeing 25/9 to the next 2 closest. Pings run anywhere from 20 to 50. My question is, what should I be seeing specs wise on the modem as this is far lower than I expected considering I had a good speeds when I was on the 20/5 plan.I have an Arris TM722G Voice Modem. What should I be seeing when I look at the downstream/upstream data?

Can you post your signal levels?

i think i remember hearing people not getting their speeds while using an EMTA on extreme tier packages....could be mistaken....maybe others could chime in.....

this is without a router when doing these tests?

Actually yes and I realize that is not optimal. I am using an older G series Linksys (7 years old) and wonder if some of that may be because of the router type. Wanted to start with the specs and then work my back though.

First step is always going straight to the modem and testing if possible.

PC > Modem. You would think I would know better. DOH!

Hmmm, guess I should have done what I have always done. Tested properly. Just picked up a new dual band N router, let's throw that in and see what it looks like.

Yep, 35 Mbps is about where the WRT54G routers top out at (assuming that's the particular model line you're referring to).

Which router did you end up getting?

Just set up a Linksys E2500, have that running to a 5 port switch and on to this PC. Current tests show the following.....

Thanks. Can't believe I skipped step 1 of this and didn't direct connect. I need a few days off....

When I changed out my G to an N, I saw a significant difference in speeds (doubled).

I saw a web page with this package and the Linksys wireless G WRT54G and he could only do the exact speeds you are saying, until he upgraded the router. When he did he saw 60Mb/10Mb..

Please go upgrade your router to a Gb router and try again. I promise you will see around 60Mb/10Mb..

(found it for you)

Yeah it's just the most logical choice is to replace the router. I mean unless your going to downgrade your internet package to fit within the speed capabilities of the WRT54G. Let us know about suggestions for routers.

The OP already replaced the old router with an E2500, which is capable of just over 90 Mbps.
