Re: A little birdie - faster uploads

If it consists of channel bonding, does that mean that docsis 2.0 customers won't benefit from this upgrade?

Docsis 2 customers weren't supposed to get the download speed upgrade but they did so knowing Rogers they'll probably do the same thing with the upload speed.

I got mine, full 28mb on my old SB5100. I love everyone is running out buying DOC 3 modems, and I sit here with my 10yr? old modem and getting the same speeds.

They'll pry that modem from my cold dead hands before I give it up.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Same here, loving the powerhouse that the SB510x is and until it dies it won't be replaced with a D3 modem and even than I might try to get another SB510x.

I should have stuck with my sb5101 until modems were confirmed to work with this. I got the 6121 to help peak download speeds, which it did, but now it seems that I might get stuck in firmware limbo and never get the upload speeds on it...

I don't see what's so special about the 5101 though, it was disconnecting every day on my old node before I moved I think that can happen to any modem. I certainly don't see a reason to hold onto it so tightly if it doesn't see the upload increase.

Personally I really don't care about the upload speed as the most uploading I do is at 3AM when Mozy runs and backs up my important data. The only time I'll start caring about the upload is when I can't peak my download speed because my upload speed is to low.

Nothing special, I have one, I get the download speed increases and all is good.

Bottom line? It cost me nothing (Rogers gave it to me on a switch back plan), and yes it slows down during peak hours if you call 18mb slow, and it works.

There isn't. End of story.

I'm with you I'll switch to Docsis 3.0 when there actually a benefit and Teksavvy/Rogers lowers the price to around the same as Docsis 2.0 modem the $100+ for modem is ridiculous and a cash grab.

I think that's actually a reasonable price for a cable modem - I even paid around $100 for my old SB5100 what must be at least 7 or 8 years ago.

The biggest advantage of DOCSIS3 over DOCSIS2 is channel bonding. If you get your promised speeds over DOCSIS2 - fine, but what if you can't because others in your area are using up all the available bandwidth on the channel your modem is using? This is where channel bonding will help greatly by utilizing 4 or even 8 downstream channels and upto 4 (2 on Rogers) upstream channels to spread out the load.

Think of it as using a multiple-lane highway to transfer data to avoid traffic jams.

I wish Rogers would offer faster upload speeds in areas where they are currently capable of doing so - perhaps offer new plans and add "where available" or something.
