[WIN7] What causes this?A few of my icons have the yellow and blue shield on them. two are winrar and MBAM. |

Without seeing the icon the only guess I have is that you're running as a standard user and those programs need elevated privileges. Does it look like the attached picture? |

It does mean 'administrator privileges needed.' I had that on a few. I disabled UAC, but did have to 'refresh' (right-click, properties, change icon, choose a DIFFERENT icon, save, change back) a few icons to get rid of the shield. |

yeah thats what they look like. why would an archiver need admin? setting it to run as admin doesn't make it go away. |

It wouldn't.
It will show programs that it knows need to be ran, or at least request full admin with that overlay. There is no logical reason for winrar to need full access, either it's an old version, or it's poor programming.
The anti-malware needs the access as it cannot remove certain files within the confines of a user account. |

When you installed Winrar, did you run the installer as administrator?
MBAM shows the admin shield overlay and triggers UAC in my W7 but Winrar doesn't. |

I don't use WinRar or MBAM so I can't offer any advice as far as they go. I use WinZip and it doesn't have the shield overlay. I wouldn't think an archiver would need admin rights. |
