Rams a playoff contender

I remember Herschel Walker trade (Vikings to Dallas) and how Dallas became a major power with that added draft talent influx.

Skins give up 2 firsts and a second just to move up 4 spots by switching first round picks. So it is 3 firsts and a 2nd for a first.

Give the Rams two or three years to make a heavy Superbowl run.
And us? we'll have more years of buying other teams expensive cast-offs cause we don't have the high draft choices to get the cap friendly young building blocks.

I'm not even bothering discussing if Griff is that good, just hoping the O-line can be improved without high draft picks so he doesn't get killed. You can't run for your life often and survive long in the NFL....

maybe but I've got a more-of-the-same feeling

I know just what you mean, Doc. But whether or not Griffin is "that good" is really the focal point here.
As I just posted in Sports Chat, if he steps in and plays like P. Manning or Favre right from jumpstreet, then I suppose it's worth it.
If he plays like Mark Sanchez or Heath Shuler, then it's just yet another high draft pick trade bust.

Hope always springs eternal for the Redskins during the offseason.

And breaking news today,

quote:
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that the Redskins and Cowboys each have been docked cap space for using the uncapped 2010 season to dump salary and front-load contracts, which the league instructed teams not to do. Washington loses $36 million in cap space over the next two seasons and Dallas loses $10 million. Those losses can be split up over the 2011 and '12 offseasons, according to the report.
Now not only are a bunch of high draft choices gone, but looks to me like the ability to grab free agents to shore up the team is also crippled. Josh Wilson/Chris Chester last year from the Ravens..... I was feeling like a move would be made for Raven Ben Gruggs (LG with probowl)..... now I'm wondering if players will have to be dumped to get salary down.

Well, apparently they have some cap space, just not as much as they thought they did a couple of days ago.

Bleh. Who knows?

Yep just did some checking.
Apparently the above accurate quote from their website is wrong.
Can be split between 2012 and 2013 seasons (not 2011).
If Skins split it evenly (18mil/yr) they have a room.

Now news hits that they have cut Mike Sellers (9yr skin) saving $1.57mil and also cut safety Oshiomogho Atogwe saving a base salary of 3.4mil. With bonuses he would have counted 5.4mil against the cap, only 4 players higher than him (I hadn't really realized that)
Looks like we could maybe see Ravens Zibikowski in burgundy

Be interesting, the chaos of free agency is about to begin boiling

A lot of discussion about this salary cap business in Sports Chat.

Sellers is a good man but he sure became expendable last year. So seeing him go is not really a big surprise.

Atogwe becomes another Redskins free agent bust. He wasn't even on the field that much last year, and when he was he wasn't much of a factor.

I never knew Zbigniew Brzezinski went on to play in the NFL.

Zbigniew? I thought you were throwing a trivia zinger at me, like Gerald Ford player center and linebacker on the national champion college football team 2 separate years

This is not the politician but the boxer

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Zbikowski
quote:
On June 10, 2006, Zbikowski made his professional boxing debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City, beating his opponent, Robert Bell of Akron, Ohio, by TKO within 49.0 seconds of the first round. The fight was compliant with NCAA guidelines. He signed a three-fight contract and has one fight left. Zbikowski boxed a three-round exhibition fight against Ryan St. Germain on March 2, 2007 at the Century Center in South Bend, Indiana. After the 2008 NFL season he decided to put his boxing career on hold to focus on football.

On March 12, 2011, Zbikowski returned to the ring for the first time since 2007, taking on 1-2 35-year-old Richard Bryant in Las Vegas, amidst ongoing NFL labor contract discord. Zbikowski won by TKO after 1 minute 45 seconds in the first round of the scheduled four-round fight.
After that, he trained under the instruction of his new trainer Emanuel Steward, an inductee both of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame, and won via a unanimous decision at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on March 26, 2011 to extend his winning streak to three in a row.He extended his win streak to 4-0 in a first-round knock out against Blake Warner at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Okla. on April 23, 2011
I have no idea if the Skins will look at him or not, but I did like what I saw when he started 6 games when Ed Reed was on PUP.

I was throwing a trivia zinger-- just a stupid one.

The Ravens allowed him to box while he was on the team? That's kinda weird. Boxers have been known to get killed in the ring, you know.
