March 2012 ONT Internet Plans Comparison, Ver 2

March 2012 ONTARIO Internet Plans Comparison #2 :

This latest spreadsheet takes into account some additional plans and providers :

(1) The ground-breaking COGECO TPIA Indie CABLE Internet services from START Communications of London, Ontario,

(2) The March 2012 DSL FTTN Price Promos, which are at least partially sponsored by Bell, who is benevolently/desperately (you choose which ) waiving their install fees to the Indie ISPs for those particular plans, and this discount is available thru many participating Indie ISPs,

(3) New 'SEMI-LIGHT DSL' plans from Electronic Box, START, & Velcom, with lower prices and caps in the 75 to 100GB range.

(4) Teksavvy's response to the SEMI-LIGHT DSL' plans of (3), PLUS they have added this usage level at 12 and 16Mb speeds (which nobody else has done so far), and AFAIK, TSI's Off-Peak FREE Usage period applies to these new plans too.

NOTE : Any IISPs participating in the March Bell Promos would be passing these savings on to the subscriber for new accounts and/or upgrades ordered/installed during part or all of this month, and in SOME cases adding further promo features of their own.

PLEASE contact each IISP for their exact policies and valid date ranges !

ALSO included are :

ROGERS' & COGECO's current Retail customer rate plans for Ontario,

Ongoing February prices & plans for Ontario from selected other Indie ISPs, who may or may not be offering FTTN DSL and/or Cable.

ABOUT the COLOURS in the Spreadsheet :

COGECO and COGECO Cable TPIA cells now have a GREEN background.

Rogers & Rogers Cable TPIA cells are RED.

DSL cells are BLUE, except for the March Promos, which are YELLOW.

DSL 'SEMI-LIGHT' are now EGGSHELL.

PLEASE FEEL FREE to post here about what you feel are the pros & cons of the various promos.

Note : There may be other providers offering similar promos.

Please post here (including link to rate page showing the deals) and I will try to include some of them, either in this or in the April edition of this CSD (Customer Service Document).

BE INFORMED CONSUMERS - READ THE SPREADSHEET !

IMPORTANT NOTICE :

Soon, the forum will LOCK the above post from further editing/updating (as all posts here are when it they become about 5 days old).

After that, please look towards the END of the current thread for a link to a newer version of the spreadsheet, as the one right here will likely be outdated, because I do things offline in Excel, and a new link is generated each time that I upload a new revision of the sheet.

I am not impressed with the Google cloud app for the spreadsheets, so that's why I do that.

Thank you, and ON WITH THE SHOW !

Time for a bump, AND some new info...

It appears VELCOM has implemented FREE OFF-PEAK USAGE on their Ontario Residential DSL plans; 2 a.m. to 11 a.m.
(this MAY also apply to Quebec DSL plans too, but the Plans & Prices page on their website doesn't show that yet)

A-HAH !

So the Thick Plottens.

Now there are 3 IISPs doing the FREE-OFF-PEAK-HOURS thing, and one doing 'POSSIBLE BANDWIDTH LIMITING DURING PEAK HOURS' (with unlimited usage)

As the 5 Day limit for updating the OP has passed, there will likely be a version 3 of the March S/S thread.

If there are any errors or glaring omissions of info from the current version 2 sheet (above link), NOW would be an excellent time to post here and point out what they are.

As you may know, the last change was to add TSI's 75GB monthly usage plans, and nobody has matched those on the higher bandwidth (speed) tiers so far.

Or HAVE they ?

Also, nobody else is matching ACANAC's FREE DRY LOOP for at least 24 months on DSL accounts set up or upgraded in March.

Or ARE they ?

We have only 2 things about which to worry -
(1) That things will never get back to normal
(2) That they already HAVE !

Nothing else new so far after Velcom's DSL 'Off-Peak Free' for March edition of the spreadsheet, but APRIL will kick off with THIS :

»Electronic Box launch SpeedLine Extreme 16 Mbits (April 1st)

That's DSL 16Mb for Ontario & Quebec, for those who do not know eBox's branding.

Soon, I'll be releasing the April edition of the Ontario spreadsheet.

The March promos will be removed (unless I hear of any being extended), and the new changes of the above few posts will be incorporated.

NOW would be an excellent time for anyone to post here below about any other new deals, if there ARE any, and if you can link to a provider rate page and/or to a forum where their reps have posted an announcement.

Thanks.
