comcast HD/DVR motorola box DCT3416 I box

just recently bought an HDTV. love the sevice. clear channels. the DVR is awesome. other than the office giving me a box that didnt work, what made me mad was customer service sucked and could not do anything but set up a tech for the next day.

google is powerful. googled the reset instructions, completely wiped the box clean and let it reload the parameters and programming and it was good to go.

question...........when i got the box, i plugged it in, cable to the imput, HDMI to the TV and i have fiber internet, so i plugged the box into my router.
what is the ethernet port for? PPV or programming? do i need to leave it plugged in to the router? i havent noticed any lag or anything. i was just wondering. it is still connected to the network.

It serves NO purpose whatsoever, other than taking up a port on your router...

The Ethernet and USB ports are disabled. The USB ports may at least supply power to run a fan or maybe charge a device.
