[Home Network] NAT Type

Hello Everyone,
I just recently made the switch from Cable Internet to DSL Extreme. I ran into a small problem once I tried playing MW3 online and I dont believe its a router issue since I had the same router with comcast and never had this issue. My console is giving me the message that my NAT type is set to restricted on my modem or router. I have followed all suggestions found; Enable UpNP on router (already was enabled), opened up ports on router. Is there anything on the modem from ATT that could could be restricting this? Modem is Motorola Model 2210-02 and router is a lynksys wrt160n.

Thanks!

If you are using the Motorola 2210-02-???? in its default mode, you are now going through a double NAT because the Motorola 2210-02-???? is also a NAT router.

You have two choices that may fix your NAT problem (I will assume that you have the newer 2210-02-1022 model).

1. Change the PPP Location to "PPP is on the computer" as shown in the image below. You will need to setup your WRT160N to do the PPPoE authentication if you do this.

Here is an example of setting the WRT160N to do PPPoE authentication:

2. The other method is to keep using DHCP on the WRT160N, and setup the 2210 to pass the public IP directly to the WRT160N without doing NAT as shown in the image below (you may need to power cycle both the modem and th router to make this configuration take effect).

If your Motorola 2210-02-???? is not a 2210-02-1022, post back with the exact model number, and someone can probably provide the proper screen shots and instructions for the model you have.
