I'm not sure if my technical skill is up to that...

I read the manual again and it said to program, I must have a "2 line display alpha keypad". My keypad and the "alpha" keypad I googled online look exactly the same (from the picture). How do I know if I have an alpha keypad or not? May be because I don't have that alpha keypad so I didn't see where I was going (doing)?

Here is the picture of my keypad:

and this is the "alpha keypad" that I need to get?

okay after some research, my keypad is 6150 which is NOT an alpha numeric keypad...so obviously I couldn't see sh*t in the programming mode. Needless to say I probably f'ed craps up during the programming...

just ordered the 6160 keypad. Man wish I knew this before the "mess".

You should have just replaced the battery instead of messing with the programming. Hell, you could have just bypassed the zone.

Thanks guys. Ordered that alpha keypad. Can't wait for it to get here to fix this mess.

BTW, anyone knows how to add a wireless motion sensor to this V15P system? I have one wireless motion sensor already but I'd like to add another one to cover the living room zone. I scanned the V15P installation menu and couldn't find any instruction of adding a motion detector.

You programmed it and put it in operation once. What's changed that you need to buy an alpha keypad now? Why can't you just repeat what you did originally?

Check the programming manual I posted at around page 16 I think that is where you begin zone configuration.

There is also a worksheet you can fill out to guide you through programming on page 36.

And yes you should have a alpha keypad to program the wireless be it the old transmitters or the new ones.

Now while the panel can monitor zones 9-48 as wireless there are limitations as to the number of transmitters a receiver can handle so before you buy another transmitter find the receiver (might be right above the main board) and be sure it can handle the number of transmitters you intend to use.

When you open other doors, the alarm will say "not ready" and won't let you arm. The backdoor, if open, still let me arm the alarm.

You have re-configured the zone type from normally closed to normally open.

I think he found it reasonably pre-programmed with the wireless pre-registered which trying to do without an alpha is well like not happening.

Check the PDF I posted and you will quickly see just how much fun a Vista can be to program through a keypad.

Truthfully about the only real practical way to program a Vista is with the Compass downloader.

I read a little of the PDF you posted and I think it's a complicated disaster for a device performing such simple tasks. Good grief industrial PLC's aren't that bad.

Wayne,
I scanned the PDF and there is no such thing for zone type as "normally closed, normally open".

Wayne,

Is there special hardware required to use the Compass downloader? Also, the software, I would have to be a register user with Honeywell...not sure how to do that either.

Look at page 17 of the programming manual. I think thatis what you are needing.

You need a Hayes 1200 baud Smart modem and access to two phone lines one for the modem and one for the panel.

you dont need a compass downloader or anything. the alpha keypad will work fine. its a bit tedious but its very easy. i did it for my own house and it took 2 hours to do the system from scratch.
alternatively get the AD2USB. it will draw out floorplans and you can do it that way.

No one doesn’t need it but if a person has access to an old modem and a couple of phone lines it takes two hours of work down to about 15 minutes including uploading to the panel.

It also provides a practical view of how the panel is programmed and makes programming the alpha real easy.

Guys,

I received the 6160 keypad today and unplug the AC & battery power , swapped the keypad, plug AC & battery in, ran to the keypad and hit 1 and 3, then 16* to change key to 16 as the tech said.

So key works fine after the system rebooted itself. However, now, the system said "Check RF 100 receiver" and none of the wireless zone work. Any idea how to fix this guys? Please help. Thank you.
