I'd also say the drop replacement was a preventative measure. Damage to them is common. It's replacement shouldn't hurt anything if the original was good, it could help if the original was bad. The drop can be damaged and allowing ingress or egress but not show any excessive signal loss. So the stats on your modem may not change even if the drop is bad. It takes measurements of other signal stats (such as ingress measurements) to really know if the drop is bad. Often it's just quicker to change the drop then go through all the trouble of measuring and interpreting the various signal levels needed to really know if it's bad. Often field tech management has a standing policy to change the drop if it's questionable at all because it's such a frequent problem.
