Re: Gov't FTTH

I thought "spouting off and looking like a fool" was the primary job for shills. As such, he's doing an excellent job so far.

They never had a supermajority, so without it nothing can move forward. Certainly not when you have an opposing party whose underlying mantra is do nothing and will vote against anything and everything.

They also have the recession handed to them to focus on; therefore, though important, issues such as broadband have to come second.

My argument is not (R) vs (D) oriented. I am merely stating where both parties stand on the issues and how they have voted in the past on it. How a senator or rep votes on an issue is there for all to see, it's not based on opinions or personal feelings.

The fact that we rank so poorly and that the private sector has left us ranked about 20th for broadband in the world means nothing.

The GOP creed is government is bad and the private sector (like MCI) is always best, therefore, they could not care less about facts or where we rank.

To some Ohioan like Boehner, 3mb/s DSL is more than enough. Too bad I don't even have access to that. It's Comcast or nothing for me.

It's amazing how after 30 years of failed Reaganomics, the GOP still beats the same drum and refuses to take responsibility for the consequences of zero government and minimal investment in America.

Let's put it another way, it's no coincidence that the majority of state senators that voted in favor of legislation preventing localities and counties from installing their own FTTH network are republican.

Republicans have not proposed a new idea in 30 years. It's always the same old tired cliche of less government, lower taxes, drill for oil, and no regulation. Moreover, it's a party that ignores the demographics of its own voting base, while claiming to be the experts on technology; even when almost no technological innovation comes out of Red States.

Does the Republican party have a team of idiots they send out to every board to post simplistic hyperbolic nonsense?

Why are we seeing "Throttling" ?
Why are we charged a thousand times over per Gig of Extra Data we download ?

60 votes in the Senate and a majority of control in the House is a supermajority. With that you can pass ANYTHING. Before complaining about politicians, learn a bit about the system.

Yes it is, you mindlessly blame Republicans while both parties have issues. It's unfortunate to see stuff like this outside the Blue Room.

Well said, as RWers do indeed live on their own planet. The Big Government world has handed it to America yet your dimwitted ilk still spew out the same baseless nonsense and failed minimum government creed from Reagan.

Obama has been in office for 3 years, he cannot repair all of the damage done by RWers and certainly not overnight. This is just another thing on the list that needs to be repaired.

Dude. The FCC Chief,, Julius Genachowski, was appointed directly by Obama and holds the majority vote. It's his fault the FCC has done nothing to address competition. Obama is almost as bad as his predecessor. Look at how he's utterly failed to stand up or regulate the big banks, or his extension of the Bush tax cuts, or wimping out of real healthcare change.

Last time any party had the 60 minimum required was in 1977. Explaining why nothing is ever accomplished in this country.

You are in error. When Arlen Specter switched parties and became a Democrat and Al Franken won, Democrats held 60 seats in U.S. Senate.

Al Franken, the 60th Democrat in the U.S. Senate was sworn in on July 7, 2009.
