| [Weather] Notice not one of them is Vancouver?! Yes, some will argue and say Squamish is Vancouver but those who live here or have lived here no Squamish is in another world. It's up around the corner in Howe Sound in it's own meteorological world. Rule of thumb about Vancouver weather. The farther south you go the less rain you get. Greater Vancouver sits in a rain shadow provided by the Olympic mountain range in Washington State. Seattle gets more rain and more snow than Vancouver.
I must admit I was amazed most of the cities weren't somewhere on the west coast.

 | BC still comes up as 3 of the top ten and Prince Rupert is the rainiest. Likewise none of the cities on the list were anything anyone would call "major." |

And one thing about vancouver: when it rains you stay clean whereas in Québec, when it rains, you and your bike collect tons of dirt, tar, sand, grit and it ruins socks unless you wash them right away.
One reason I was told is that it rains so much in vancouver that roads never have a chance to get dirty. (but also the fact that they don't have winter, don't dump tonnes of salt and sand on the roads). |

You think it has something to do with the fact the rain that comes down here was "formed" out at sea whereas the rain back east has 3/4 of a continent to pick up crap??

jfmezeiPremium join:2007-01-03 Pointe-Claire, QC kudos:22 | Oh , it isn't the rain that is dirty. It is our roads. And when they are wet, all the dirty is attracted to the cyclist like dust bunnies are attracted to of the shamwow guy's products.
car exhaust is probably the worst offender. It just accumulates on the road surface and reacts with the ashphalt. When it rains, it all ends up on the cyclist's back, his socks and the bicycle.
Vancouver has more frequent rain to wahst that stuff off. And in Montreal, the gunk accumulates all winter long and our roads remain dirty all summer long. |
