Re: Firefox's native PDF Viewer Updated

Is this PDF browser extension the same thing that's included with FF19 now as the native PDF browser? Just curious.

Yes; its now released with Firefox 19.
If the extension is installed, it should be automatically disabled.

Check your pdf viewer default choice in Options > Applications.

The extension was not automatically disabled. I had to disable it and restart Firefox to get it to take. If I set Action to Always Ask, when asked the option to Preview in Firefox is not available. The only works if I set Action to Preview in Firefox.

Could it be because I am using Linux? I shouldn't but....

Nice implementation on the part of Mozilla crew. Stayed right out of the way of my established Sumatra rendering. I've nothing bad to say about Sumatra: light, fast, simple. Glad that Mozilla saw fit to not intrude.

Thanks GF.
The channels are staying very close to latest build via auto-update:

This is not 0.8.1? It's newer? If so, how come Sea Monkey 2.17.1 says there is no update available?

Re: PDF Viewer version 0.8.118

Thank you. I've followed this thread but loosely since Fx 17 ESR doesn't have it built in. Then I noticed recently that it is available for Sea Monkey, latest version, that I have on the Win 8 computer. So, I installed it for SM. The few times I have used it there, I've been impressed. I sort of wish it was available for Fx 17 ESR.

Install the extension in 17 ESR.

(next ESR release is 24 - it will be built into the release).

The extension available for Fx 17 is not the same as what I have for the latest SeaMonkey. I seldom need PDF reader anymore so I'll use SM or download to Evince when I need it.

Evince
Well, the Fx native PDF reader just now did what it used to do all the time. I'm disappointed. After all this time, it still produces unreadable documents. At least some of the time, currently, it will produce a readable one, whereas, in the past they were all unreadable. But they need to all be readable or it is not worth having a reader built into the browser as you waste time and then have to download the PDF to disk anyway and read in a standalone PDF reader (I use Evince).

SeaMonkey told me it wasn't readable (as though I could not see that for myself) and told me to use Evince.

When forced to use mine, it sucks.
Do you allow pages to choose their own fonts? ...or do you force your own? It seems to make a big difference with the "built-in" PDF viewer.

So, that is the problem? Wow, never would have guessed. No, I have never allowed pages to choose their own fonts. I use Verdana for everything (except Windows font which Microsoft won't let me change on Win 8 like I could on all previous versions of Windows).

Guess I won't ever be using Fx's PDF reader then and I might as well remove it from Sea Monkey.
