Re: [STB] Comcast Interactive TVs Instant Info Widgets?

Olathe don't have them yet to but Smart TV and Surewestkc has things like them.

with as much as these people make they can do it. I wish I made half as much as these people.

I think they will give motorola customers priority compared to cisco customers.

As long as I get those widgets I will be happy. Just wish I could install a dish here.

Comcast has already given Motorola customers priority. For about 4 years, Comcast had ignored the SA/Cisco STB market with no guide updates to the SARA guide. The S25 replacement guide for SARA is a step backward. Comcast replaced the SARA guide with the S25 Guide which was based on the Motorola A25 guide. The Motorola A25 guide does not have the SARA features such as Picture-in-Picture, Passthrough, DVR standby mode, more recording options, copy to VCR menu option, no skip to the end, the auxillary jacks on the front are disabled, support for external hard drives, et cetera. The S25 guide created truncated recordings under certain conditions. This decision by Comcast has created a lot of unhappy customers. I think "unofficial" support for external hard drives was the only major function from SARA that was added to the S25 Guide. Comcast had to deploy a patch to fix the problem with truncated recordings.

I think Comcast will continue playing catchup in the SA/Cisco STB market before deploying On-Screen Guide 2.0 on Motorola STBs or on Cisco RNG STBs except for the Cisco RNG 200-N DVR with AnyRoom DVR functionality.

The Cisco RNG 200-N with AnyRoom DVR functionality is only being deployed with On-Screen Guide 2.0. This is currently in only about 6 states. Cisco AnyRoom DVR functionality will be rolled out in other Cisco STB markets. This is the only STB currently getting On-Screen Guide 2.0.

My guess is that On-Screen Guide 2.0 will be rolled out to other Cisco RNG STBs next since the software is already written. After that, I expect On-Screen Guide 2.0 will be ported to Motorola STBs.

don't pace rng boxes use the same infrastructure as the cisco rng since they are both made by pace?

Also will this guide have the widgets or is that on-screen guide 3.0?

Lastly wouldn't it make more sense to write the guide for All boxes the deploy it region by region. To me it would make no sense to deploy it to the central/western pa cisco areas the come back a year later and do the motorola markets.

In my area the Pace RNG110 boxes use the same guide as the Motorolas. I've seen a lot of problems with some of the Pace boxes and HD with streching and OnDemand not working. And then again some of them are great and give free HD service, lol.

My Motos have never had any problems. I haven't seen the newer Moto models yet as the best in my area is still the DCX3400. But Comcast still gives old ancient Motorola DCT6412 with the 120GB hard drives! I couldn't do anything less than a terabyte in my DVX's! I couldn't imagine not being able to record any less than 175hours of HD? I remember having two DCT6412 in my bedroom so I could record my shows.

Motorola still has up their up website for broadband: »broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dct6412.asp "An integrated 120 GB hard drive lets you record up to an estimated 90 hours of standard digital TV or 12–20 hours of HDTV. You can maintain a personal library of your favorite programs to watch whenever it's convenient." Top of the line baby!

sill doesn't answer why they would want to do an area twice instead of all at the same time.

Pace doesn't make Cisco STBs. Pace can make STBs that are compatible with Motorola gear or Cisco gear or Tru2way protocols.

I think Widgets are an add on feature to A28 and should be available in future guides.

Comcast is planning to use Tru2way protocols to make the On-Screen Guide 2.0 in the Motorola and Cisco STB markets more consistent and be able to add more features quicker. The problem is that the software that controls the hardware is different on the Motorola and Cisco STBs and it takes Comcast a long time to rewrite the software. It would take a longer time to get guide updates if Comcast waited until the software for both Motorola and Cisco STBs were finished before sending out an update.

BTW my guide info is:

SW Ver: 78.53 - A28p0-4.1005.r-8
Firmware: 22.65

I will check tonight to see if a neighbors Pace RNG110 has the widgets too and if its not just a Motorola thing. I'll let you know soon.

the HSN QR code is standard for the HD feed of HSN for all providers not a guide thing.

My firmware for my Pace RNG110.

SW Ver: 78.73 - A28p0-4.1005.r-8
Firmware: 22.71

I'm guessing you just have the Pace version of the Moto software. I'll double check tomorrow on my neighbors Pace box as I'll post there software/firmware info. From the site at the link below I can't find info on your software or firmware versions. I'm guessing it's because the site is for Motos. But you seem to have the same software versions but your advanced numbers are just probably updated numbers when the coding was made to differentiate the Pace software for the Moto software. That is just a guess though but I've seen it done with other boxes and software versions.

»en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use···Software

I however did try the widgets out on the Pace boxes and the option is there for "Instant Info" within the iTV setting but when I would click on it, it would simply load for a sec and then show and error screen. I'll double check tomorrow just to make sure it wasn't a one time thing and then I'll post the error code as well. At lest the option is there on the Pace boxes though.

Well, I can tell you it doesn't work on the Pace RNG110 boxes anyway. Each time I try it runs and then gives an error. I tried on two different days but I forgot to grab the box software/firmware info so I'll try once more and get that info for you guys. On my DCX3400 it works OK but VERY SLOW! And like I have mentioned before it is very hard to get to requiring multiple prompts to bring it up. As others have said this must be using the OOB signal to update but I have no idea when then could enable DOCSIS 2.0 and have everything running smoothly?

Why are they even bothering coding this when a new guide similar to their online guide is necessary? The guide is so outdated and backwards. My friend has DirecTV and they can search by Director, Year, Show, Actor, etc! Ours you can search by actor/director but it almost never works and seems to never have anyone listed even though I can see a movie with that actor or director in the guide!? I love to see the channel logos like the Comcast online or Android phone app. Trying to figure out which channel WTVJD is or I confuse SCIHD with SyFyD!

I have had the current Iguide for at least over ten years now! Yeah they have added 16:9 screensaver (LMFAO) and MyDVR control (crappy basic DVR recording) but in terms of tech they are over ten years behind! I remember when I first moved here we had the old blue and yellow guide! Actually it's been over ten years as I originally received this guide back in 01 or 02? About the same time we got OnDemand. Neither technologies have been upgraded?! OnDemand is like navigating the north Atlantic Ocean and the iguide is well... the iguide! Buggy, slow and arg inducing! I don't understand when all of the other companies (Verizon, ATT, DirecTV, Dish Network) have all been upgraded about ten times since then!?

/Rant

I feel the same way. Unfortunately Cisco areas are going to get the new guide sometime this summer or early fall.
Motorola areas will be lucky to see it by this time next year or as comcast says there is not date for motorola areas at this time.
