| [Rant] Game Informer Magazine quitting hard copies, now digital. My GI sub has been expired for awhile and today I finally decided to stop into gamestop and renew my subscription. Walked in, gave info and was about to check out till the clerk gave me a piece of paper saying how I will get my magazine. I told him "cool, so now we get both digital and printouts?". He says "no, last month or so they decided to stop printing out the magazine and now going digital". WTF? Really? He goes on telling me how awesome it is. I told his screw that, what am I suppose to read while taking a shit on the toilet? He joked about me taking my laptop in the bathroom to read GI.
Damn it technology, I want my printed version! I go on telling him about the folks that cant access Game Informer at school and work and he said that he would mention it to his manager. He told me that I should still get a subscription so I can get the gamestop card and save money. Screw that, I order all my stuff online so I dont pay taxes. He also goes on saying this weekend you get 50% more on trade in games. Yeah, get 50% back on getting nothing for trade in games. |

Either way, I dont have a tablet. Im not going to go out of my way to buy one so I can read GI. Ill probably get one of those cheap subs of wired or something. |

Well I placed the order for 24 months, lets see what happens. Maybe the gamestop is getting kickbacks to subscribe people only to digital? In long term GI saves money. |

Hard cover books rule. But really, who cares if you can't get hard copy of something barely worth a read once.
And for those always in a frantic need to claim you can't read some electronic devices in some locations, oh get real, don't wait for the rest of us to care that you ain't interested in joining us in the electronic future.
I wouldn't read my tablet in the bath for a lot of reasons including danger level. But sitting on the toilet, the tablet is in as much danger there as it is here in front of my desk. After all, if you are a clutz the device is doomed.
I like that I can carry hundreds of books with me. When I want to curl up with a GREAT book, I usually have a hard cover. But I don't consider magazines great reading. |

I KNEW this was coming. They have been pushing the digital only thing for a long time; it was only a matter of time until they discontinued the print mag altogether. I have subscribed for years, and like you read them mostly while having a restroom break. The magazine was the only reason I kept renewing; I haven't actually shopped at Gamestop in years. Guess it's back to Uncle John's Bathroom Readers.
Edit: Just saw the catman's post and link. I still bet they discontinue the print mag one day... |

It seems to be the way of a lot of magazines. I've seen more and more going digital only. Shonen Jump went all digital this year. Sort of sad since I got it for One Piece. |

I don't think they will for a long time coming.
@Duramaz08 - I renewed a year or so ago, and they gave me digital. All I had to do was call Game Informer and let them know I wanted Hard Copy instead (you get one or the other), and they made the change for me, as well as gave me an extension on my subscription. I recommend you do the same.
