1 edit | Still Waiting for Megapath to close my account.. 13 days.. I canceled my SE DSL service on March 14, the last day of Paid service. I submitted both a PTR 3534212 and followed up with a phone call.
The CS reps then redirected me to special (unadvertised) cancellation web page.. (www.megapath.com/support/cancellations/)
Within that page it states.. "We are unable to process verbal cancellations.
Cancellations will typically be processed within 72 hours of receiving written cancel request notice."
That's a far cry from the old SE proceedure, submit a PTR and your done. None the less I filled out the form, submitted it and received confirmation #5054278 @ my new hosting service.
Lastly, I physically unplugged/disconnected my Actiontec dsl modem over 6 hours before midnight(3/14 4:53pm EST).
Despite several follow up calls.. The cancellation request is still not completed. I have no invoice showing a zero balance.
Thank god I didn't update my retired CC number on file, I'm fairly sure they would have pulled a fast one and tried to bill me for another month.

 | Damn...this is discouraging. FiOS recently wired my apartment building and as soon as they start accepting sign-ups, I plan to dump SE...er, Megapath.
BTW...the URL you mention leads to a 404. |

 | Thanks. I'll be using this soon!
In a way, it's sad...SE used to be such a great company. |

| reply to tkdslr Megapath's staff seems to be not following the Megapath corporate policies unless you request to speak to a supervisor and read directly from their corporate policies page the policy they are failing to adhere to.
In regards to termination, it is important to note if you where a customer of Speakeasy before October of 2010. In accordance to the Megapath Terms and Conditions, "MegaPath's termination policy and process is set forth in the Fee Schedule." That document only provides the termination process in a section oddly named "Early Termination." Since it is the only section that described the termination process, it should apply regardless of if it is an early termination. Under that section, for Speakeasy accounts that where ordered before October of 2010 can "terminate an installed circuit or service" by calling "800-556-5829 or via email to support@speakeasy.net"
If they still have not closed your account then you may want to point out that according to MegaPath corporate policy the Terms of Service references the Fee Schedule and Services which clearly states in writing that for Speakeasy orders placed before October 2010 that they *DO* (again, by their own corporate policy) provide for termination notice to be given by phone (hence verbally). If you decide to go this route to put pressure on them, then I suggest you also follow it up in writing by emailing support@speakeasy.net
But keep in mind, this option would only apply if you ordered before October of 2010.
Also, even if you changed CC numbers, if you still have the same CC account, some banks will honor recurring charges against the old CC number. Even if the bank rejects the charge or allows you to file a charge back, that won't stop MegaPath from sending whatever they consider to be an unpaid balance to debt collection agency and take your credit score down a notch. |

| I've had SE aDSL service for 6 years and 1 month.
I decided to check yesterday, 3/31/2012, to see if my SE account was still active. I.E. I tried logging into my old speakeasy account id. So I guess the account is really dead now. (no followup email's so far.) |

tkdslr join:2004-04-24 Pompano Beach, FL | Got a call from Megapath today 4/9. The CS rep informed me that my account was closed on 3/21, some sort of credit was issued.
I don't have a final invoice yet, so I don't know what the final numbers will be (should be 0). |
