Re: Bath/Kitchen Sinks Leak when u pour water

They make a plumbers putty now that is non-staining. I had to use it on my kitchen sink.

Sta put ultra stainless plumbers putty

safe for use in setting most types of plumbing fixtures and surfaces.Unlike all other plumber’s putty it is oil-free and can be used on porous surfaces

Really a builder told you a Faucet which carries water would have it's warranty void if it becomes wet?

And whomever suggested that you don't clean the faucet with water is insane. Counter surfaces are intended to get wet, otherwise what would be the point in waterproofing/sealing the counter tops themselves, why not throw down some OSB with latex on top if that's the case.

Water should never be able to penetrate from the upper counter surface to below no matter what. Not only can it cause damage, it's unsanitary for the area, think about it. Common sense. Anyone who says different has no business using plumbing, much less installing it.

The warranty is voided if you use plumbers putty to seal it. I've seen this in installation instructions before as well, but I went ahead and did it anyway.

I looked up the warranties on Kohler, Delta, Moen, Pfister and American Standard, and nowhere in the warranty does it mention using plumber's putty voiding the warranty. In fact, the installation instructions for Pfister and American Standard faucets shows plumber's putty as one of the recommend tools.

I've never seen any plumbing fixture manufacture state that plumber's putty would void any warranties. In fact, proper installation of the putty should make it where the body of the faucet itself never touches the putty. So installation of putty under a faucet has nothing to do with the operation of the faucet. Anyone claiming such is full of it.

Not to say there isn't exotic facuets made of materials where putty should not be used, so that's why we pull out the tube of silicone.

Again, no faucet should allow water to penetrate the mounting surface. Any that does suffers from improper manufacture or pisspoor installation.

They have a plumbers putty that is safe for these installations like granite and marble and corian. Otherwise silicone works.
