TheMGPremium join:2007-09-04 Canada kudos:1 | [Rant] volume level at rock concerts For the first time ever, I went to a rock concert yesterday.
The volume level was STUPID LOUD! Although I was seated in the balcony section at the back, it was still loud enough to distort heavily in my ears. My ears were ringing for hours after the show.
From what regular concert-goers have told me, this is quite normal for concerts.
Why the hell do they have to put it so loud? What's the point?
If I ever go to a concert again I'm definitely bringing some earplugs. It's hard to appreciate the music when it is so loud it's distorting in the ears. |

They were playing like it was for 80,000 people. It was a much smaller venue, though. -- Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. |

They generally go way too far though, it is way into the hearing damage range and when it is common advice to bring earplugs to an event where you are there for the sound I think we have an obvious problem.
There is a long list of reasons, but my theory is that somebody must be wanting it that loud and it is probably people who have been damaging their hearing with excessively loud music for years so they want it ever louder. |

Shit, back in the day, Cheap Trick had perfect sound at The Brat Stop. Seating? SRO of 250 people.
I know this dude that's seen them in every size of venue and I'm sure he can attest to the proper volume in ALL of them. -- Hopefully the Ministry Of Truth and Thought Police can sort this whole thing out. »twitter.com/Bink63 »www.legacypcs.com Frank Shoemaker would call this noise GO Cubs GO!!! |

| reply to TheMG The only rock concert i have ever been to was outdoors, only concerts indoors i have been to are from a few country music bands but both of which didn't have their volume so high that you could not understand anything they say. We have an arena here locally, not real sure of the seating capacity but the few concerts and WWE events I have been to at it the volume has never been too bad that I want to walk out. |

| reply to TheMG The way I see it, if the music is way to loud, then you can usually blame the band itself. Its the way they obviously wanted it to be. So that isn't saying much of the band (in my opinion).
There are a lot of great artist out there that strive to have their sound, sound right at any given venue. Then you have the artist that set up, do a few checks and that's it.
I have been to many concerts, and the only one that the audio hurt my ears was a Van Halen concert. I'm not sure it was their fault or the venues own sound engineers. But it was bad, and I have never gone to another one of their concerts since (because of that). -- Long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be. |

GhastlyonePremium join:2009-01-07 Las Vegas, NV kudos:2 | reply to TheMG The loudest concert I've been to to date would have to be Korn back about 5-6 years ago.
I've been to a huge number of metal concerts over the years ranging from Fear Factory, Sevendust, Type O Negative, Rob Zombie, Sepultura, God Smack, Orgy, etc.
Korn hands down, was the loudest. It was almost painful. |
