Start Communications in Cogecoland - Live, with a Review!

So, I've been given permission to blow the lid open on this, so here I am.

I've had Start TPIA running on the aggregate Cogeco POI here for the last few days. I received a Motorola SB 5101N in the mail, hooked it up and after a few tweaks related to the test phase I was off to the races.

First off, a speedtest:

Now, as I said I'm using a 5101N right now. This is a DOCSIS 2 modem, and the current maximum profile supported on D2 is 16/1. DOCSIS 3 modems will get 20/1.5. There are some things going on behind the scenes that should make the full 20/1.5 profile more easily attainable for customers using existing hardware. I'm not about to speak to any of that yet, but needless to say it will make things so much better if it happens.

At prime time, I'm maxing out my connection at 16/1, so as it stands right now congestion is a non-issue. Since rocca is on record stating he would rather have fewer happier customers than more angry customers, I take him at his word that keeping things running smoothly is his top concern.

Now, a traceroute to Google...

Peering at Torix. Super low latency. Lower than what I got with a retail Cogeco connection, even. Same with a traceroute to DSLR...

So there it is guys. What else can I say - we now have a wide-scale Cogeco TPIA option and - damn - it's a good option! While I am sure that you could argue that I along with a handful of others are the only ones connected, but also remember that Start has Redzone customers and an existing DSL business and things are still running smoothly. This is a very good sign. I have no doubt that everyone who has already signed up will be very happy with what they are about to get. I know I am.

Very encouraging.

But remember, he didn't ask Angelo to be a tester.

BTW, you should post this good news also in the START forum, if not already done so.

I'm posting it here because this is significant news as a whole. I mean think about it - finally, the Cogeco aggregate POI is operating. We've been waiting for this for a very long time.

Veeeeery nice.

Now my curiosity is killing me. I'm thinking about setting up a bonding solution with TSI DSL on one side and Start cable on the other.
