Why can something called "revenue assurance" make changes to my account that for one, stop my equipment from working (my dvr started saying something about disabled) and two, increase my bill without my permission?

It sounds like maybe your account was audited and and an error was discovered where for example, you were receiving certain services which were discovered to be either un-billed or under billed.

reply to gug I received a letter recently from Comcast saying that they just realized that they hadn't been charging me a fee for one of my extra STBs. They said they will now be adding the extra fee to my bill going forward.
Sounds like Comcast may be performing some account audits like jack b suggested.
reply to gug I'm not sure comcast even knows what their own bills are doing... I have a "Service discount" of -$15 on my bill every month for the past year now, and when I ask what it is for no one knows! I'm waiting for the day when it says "service discount recoup $30"
