 | $10 fee is not for WiMAX, it's for all smartphones "You'll recall that to help counter the cost of unlimited Sprint charges users a $10 "because we can" fee if they wanted to access Sprint's faster WiMax network."
The $10 extra fee is for all smartphones whether 3G or WiMAX. Another way to look at it is that it would not be fair for featurephone 3G users to pay the same rate as heavier smartphone users. Either way, the $10 fee for smartphones is still overall less than VZW/ATT plans. $10 for unlimited data is hardly a bad deal. |
|
 | that is true with the extra fee but why charge one at all? They're just charging because they can instead of being fully up front about it. |
|
 | They changed the rate like all carriers have. Would you rather pay $10-$20 per GB on ATT/VZW or $10 unlimited on Sprint? Granted, if you get Sprint in your area. |
|
|
|
 | maybe if it was true unlimited they wouldn't charge. TMO doesn't charge. And its Unlimited. |

Well considering their plan's are called *Everything Data Share* or whatever, it's not really a good deal paying for data twice... |

jpkjeff join:2012-02-09 Oklahoma City, OK | reply to 25139889 Except TMO is NOT unlimited...on most of their postpaid plans, customers only get 2GB of "unlimited" data and after that speeds are throttled severely (most users claim it's to about dial up speeds) until the end of your billing cycle. Hardly what I would call unlimited. |

jpkjeff join:2012-02-09 Oklahoma City, OK | reply to iFail 5G You aren't paying for data twice. The cost of the cheapest "everything" data plan is $79.99, INCLUDING the $10 premium data surcharge...and as other posters have pointed out, this is for ANY Android phone or the iPhone. That is still far cheaper than comparable plans from AT&T and Verizon (for example, AT&T's cheapest plan is $39.99 for voice, $30.00 for 3GB of data, and $20.00 for unlimited text messaging; a total of $89.99...and AT&T's night & weekend minutes start at 9pm, not 7pm). Verizon's plan prices are a little higher, and of course if you go over your data allowance you are charged even more ($10 for each additional GB of data). Yes, Sprint's 3G network is still lousy in many areas (including OKC) but once the Network Vision improvements are completed in the next year (or less), this issue will be fixed. |
|
 | reply to jpkjeff still unlimited as they do not charge you overages unlike the other large carriers. And its not "most". it's only if YOU CHOOSE that plan. They have 5gigs available; even on the prepaid FlexPay plans. |
|
 | reply to jpkjeff you think NV improvements will change that greatly? The network will be overwhelmed before its even started to take off- if its ever completed.
and the $10 is simply a rape surcharge. Instead of bashing it like most would do on this site if it was any other carrier; its praised since its Spent. But like i said; TMO-USA is the only fully unlimited carrier. They may throttle you- but its still unlimited. And yes you can get 5gigs per month. with NO prem. extra $10 like Spent does. If they were smart they'd use that $10 extra a month to fund their new build instead of spending it on the iProducts. |

The issue hardly will be fixed because they are still working on their 3G network, while Verizon is rapidly deploying LTE across their entire network by next year. And with Sprint, I have trouble hitting 1GB on my iPhone, so the 4GB for $30 would be a much better deal on Verizon.
A $10 surcharge is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of and yes, you are paying for data twice. Does it not say EVERYTHING DATA? Last time I checked it did... So $10 is a total BS fee because thats clearly not everything.
Sprint isn't a much higher value than AT&T or Verizon either, they have many disadvantaged such as an almost non-existent 4G network thats often slower than AT&T 3G.
For that $89 with AT&T, you also get unlimited any mobile to any mobile calling as well so the savings aren't justified for the millions of people outside of Sprint's swiss cheese of a 4G network.
Network vision is fixing what should have been fixed 5 years ago, its nothing innovative, and nothing impressive.
Btw. I have 3 line's with Sprint and it is horrible. I also have 5 lines with Verizon and its better in almost any way. Sprint's 4G is destined to fail from the start because they are using such little amount of spectrum, speeds are not going to be comparable to what Verizon sub's are getting even with nobody on it. |

T-Mobile having the majority of their network still GPRS, Sprint still well barely having a network.
Throttling is hardly unlimited. If you own an interstate and allow traffic to flow naturally save a car accident slowing it down or traffic jam at peak times, then you are allowing an unlimited amount of cars to pass to the extend the interstate will support.
If you have the same interstate but close down 3 lane's or limit the speed artificially then you effectively are limiting the amount of vehicles that can travel down the interstate, therefore its being limited.
The same applies to wireless as well. It's not unlimited, just like AT&T's unlimited is no long unlimited. |

jpkjeff join:2012-02-09 Oklahoma City, OK | reply to iFail 5G You also get unlimited calling to any mobile with the Sprint plan, too (I don't know if Verizon offers that or not). I have 2 lines with Sprint and each averages about 1.2-1.5GB of data per month. 3G speeds were terrible until last month and while they aren't great now, they are tolerable. I'm willing to wait for the Network Vision upgrades simply because I save so much money over any competitor (lower base price plus the discounts I get)-I'm saving about $40/month over what I'd pay Verizon or AT&T. But I don't blame anyone for leaving...if I wasn't saving so much money I would probably jump ship as well. |

On Verizon I get my data on a special promotion, 5 line's and data on them is only $10 a month each until 2038. Plus I get a 25% discount from my employer so 5 lines, friends and family to 10 numbers and 1400 minutes, unlimited text and data on every line, runs me $220
I keep Sprint just because I have been with them for so long, and the fact I have 2 legacy NEXTEL iDEN handsets I use for direct connect.
Plus we are getting LTE from Sprint here this year so it will be tolerable, hopefully they will stick to their plans this time. |

 | reply to iFail 5G it is still unlimited by they do NOT charge you extra. Your data still flows with no extra charges. So yes; it is unlimited. Throttling just slows it down but at least they don't charge you $10 a gig over or $10 even though you already paid for it. TMO also gives you unlimited tethering and hotspot on your phone. I don't see the others doing this very willingly. |
|
 | reply to iFail 5G hopefully you're iDEN phones work up until you get your new Sprint phones as the iDEN network goes down for the most part in June/July. All those happy iDEN customers are going to be SOL as they keep signing up iDEN customers without telling them anything. |

But if you are in T-Mobile's good HSPA+ coverage area's, then its definitely worth the money, especially the voice quality. But still, if I were in a functioning LTE Sprint area and a full T-Mobile area I would go for the truly unlimited as would most. |

All those happy iDEN customers are going to be SOL as they keep signing up iDEN customers without telling them anything. i'm kinda pissed about that, the sucky part is in the rural south, there are so many areas with iDEN only cell sites with NO sprint so Sprint phone's are roaming. It's ridiculous and stupid if you ask me, how long have they owned Nextel again??
They are supposedly just reducing the excess iDEN sites that were needed to support the iDEN base which was much larger in 2005.
And hopefully they will replace those iDEN only sites with Sprint so I can switch to those Sprint Direct Connect phones. |

Part of Network Vision rollout is to convert iDen sites to 800Mhz CDMA so yes, by the time iDen is turned off (2013?), CDMA will have iDen equivalent coverage. It needs FCC approval, which is expected. |

I like Sprint Direct Connect, the new service works very well, but the service in rural area's and some buildings just isn't as expansive as 800mhz iDEN is yet.
It's gotten a lot better with the Network Vision work here though, we already have LTE panel's up for Sprint |

Please point to the Unlimited plan with free tethering that you speak of. EVERY plan I see has a Limit, Even the $229 one. |
