Cox → [FL] Extremely slow speeds since outage

Hi,

Sometimes after I reconnect after a thunderstorm, my cable internet connection will be slow or nothing at all. I have to turn everything back off and reconnect the coaxial cable. On March 23rd, we had severe thunderstorm and had an outage. I am testing my speeds during different times through various websites. Since then, my speeds from speedtest.net are around 4.54Mbps (much lesser on other sites) the majority of the time. Next day, I called Cox tech support and there were no problems. He did'nt know why my speeds were slow.

I tested my speeds using the coaxial cable from the wall direct to the modem bypassing splitters. Also tested with 4 ethernet cables. Bypassed and reset an old wired router. My wireless router quit working. The speed results are the same. Also internet sometimes disconnects couple times a day.

My modem is a Terayon TJ715X. I am on the preferred account w/download speeds up to 18Mbps with powerboost. I'm in Pensacola, FL.

Maybe the tap you're hooked up to is under water.

FWIW the terajet modem you have is no longer on the supported modems list.

It's been my experience that anybody with a Terayon modem that is experiencing speed issues is probably due for an upgrade. Those modems have been end of life for some time now. If you've been considering upgrading this might be a good time to try.

Send me your modem MAC, I'll trade you a new D3.0 SB6180 for that old Terayon.

@dvd536 never thought about the water. Happened also when I had dial-up through landline. Ever since I had this modem, I've always experienced these issues.

Not looking forward to another expense. I am looking into getting a new wireless router. The Cox Tech I spoke to recommended it since my Playstation 3 will not connect and obtain an ip address to the modem or router. My VOIP adapter will not connect via the modem either; however it will via an old non-wireless router. My laptop with Win7 has no issues.

will you actually trade a sb6180 for a terayon?

Why oh why would you make such a post? We both know why he is doing this, and it benefits both cox, and its customers. I am sure he could find easier, and cheaper ways to get older modems. But the point here is, he is simply trading them there old modem, for a newer D3 modem. Which is very nice of him, and its saving some customers from having to buy new D3 modems.

Pretty much. Customer gets a D3.0 modem and I get an old modem I don't have in the quiver. Its a win win win all around. Customer wins(new modem), Cox wins(more D3), and I win(old modem). Plus the added bonus making people happy and getting attention on pulling the Terayons off the network.
