Ditching Pay TV
My family ditched DirecTV last year after 8 years. My initial bill was $29 a month for service and it had since increased to $92 a month at the time I cancelled. It is not that we could not afford it, but the fact is we decided the return value was not there.
We only watch half a dozens shows which are available online for free. I get my college football fix via ESPN3 on the XBOX360.I get the major networks via a $50 OTA antenna in my attic. We purchased the APPLE TV 2 for the handful of shows that we watched on cable. There is no need for a DVR now. We still watch all of the programs we used to, but now at a fraction of the cost of the DirecTV monthly bill. I get the major networks via a $50 OTA antenna in my attic. I never max out the 250GB cap that Comcast puts on our internet. My monthly cost to watch TV is now around $15. I will never go back to the traditional pay TV as long as I have no control over what I pay to watch or don't watch.
