Do Sprint/Sierra Wireless "U"s work on XP Pro 64 bit?

I'm looking for a device to use with millenicom and grew concerned when:

a) Millenicom told me it would not be a problem.
b) the device seller said XP 32 but NOT 64
c) Sprint said no to the 64 bit OS as well, but then tried to upsell me.
d) I downloaded the sprint software just to see and it would not install on my system.

But do I even need the sprint software? Or will any of the "U"s just plug n play and let me create a network connection in the control panel?

I sure do appreciate your help if you have any experience with this. Odd that they support Vista and 7 64 bit but specifically seem to exclude XP 64 bit from the round up.

According to the datasheet at Sierrawireless.com the U598 does support XP 32&64 bit versions. You can try installing Watcher if the Sprint software doesn't work:

But that one doesn't seem to be a Sprint specific device. Sprint has the 598 "U" but again that says not on XP 64 bit.

If I get the "generic" 598 will it still work with millenicom?

It is quite clear that the SierraWireless 598U supports XP 32&64 bit Versions. And Millenicom supports this. Just buy one off Ebay for dirt cheap and be done.
