It was pretty obvious. With that being said, what the GNOME hippies did right was to open the Shell to extensions. Install the right ones and you turn it into a usable DE. MGSE is a good start but I know I installed a couple more, just forgetting which ones as I've migrated over to XFCE due to aging hardware. If I had more contemporary hardware, I would have stuck with GNOME Shell + MGSE.
