[BC] Port Forwarding not working - 31.30L.55 firmware

Maybe I'm just being obtuse, but I cannot get port forwarding to work on my ActionTEC v1000h with 31.30L.55 firmware.

I can access my IP camera on my LAN, and I've setup port forwarding in the router as follows:
LAN start/end port: 9091
LAN IP: 192.168.1.191
Remote start/end ports: 9091
Remote IP: none/any (0.0.0.0)

I get nothing when trying my WAN IP with port 9091.
I've also tried other ports. Anyone else using port forwarding on this firmware? Any idea what's wrong with my setup?

thanks,
Jason

I'm totally getting the run-around from Telus...
Let's see if this makes any sense from a customer service perspective.

- Telus requires me to use the v1000h as my intenet router
- Telus cripples the v1000h firmware
- Telus tech support says they can't help with any software features in the router, including port fowarding
- Telus refers me to ActionTec for support on Telus' custom router firmware
- ActionTEC tells me to go pound sand, because I'm running Telus firmware
- I now have a router that I don't own, am not allowed to modify, doesn't work as designed, and nobody is willing to support it.

TELUS - what the f*** am I supposed to do?
My best option is probably to cancel the service and get Shaw Extreme..

OK, I have a feeling the traffic is not arriving at the router.
I'm on this new 108.172 IP block and it seems like (maybe) that unsolicited traffic is not allowed inbound...!?

I've been using various online traceroute tools and they all seem to die off at 209.121.x.x network.
I'm certainly no networking expert - am I missing something?

Just means your router doesn't respond to pings.

@telus.net

are you port forwarding TCP or UDP frames? Whats the model of the IP cam? Where are you trying to test this from?

I'm forwarding TCP - I've tried ports in the 40000 range as well as 9099. They're foscam FI8918W IP cameras that allow me to change their port. I can access them on my LAN fine.

I'm testing from different computers on my LAN as well as from my 3G phone and from a VPN connection to my office, and even using third party sites that test your availability (like »isup.me ).

Now I've setup Wireshark on a PC that is on wired ethernet into the ActionTEC. I can capture traffic on port 9099 from other computers on my LAN trying to access that PC. But inbound traffic from the internet does not seem to arrive. at » myWanIPaddress:9099

@telus.net

Have you set the default gateway up in the webcam to 192.168.1.254?

I find the easiest way to test port forwarding issues is to use portscan software. You can use the online utilities, but they don't tell you if you have identified the correct ports. Some devices use both a UDP and a TCP port, with the UDP port being utilized as a keep alive service. Portscan utilities usually only works with the TCP port.

Use the portscan software on your local network to verify you have identified the correct port. Then you can use the same software from the WAN (or an online portscan utility) to verify that the port is being forwarded correctly through the router. If the router has a firewall enabled, you may have to check that as well.
