[Tomato] How fast of a connection can a WRT54GS v7.2 handle?Thinking of going with Charter's 100/5 speed tier. Will my old reliable WRT54GS running Tomato firmware be able to handle that? It'll be 95% wired connection, not too worried about wireless at this point. |

Unlikely, I can't find any stats which relate to your exact model, however the WRT54GS version 3 could do only around 33MBPS WAN to LAN /LAN to WAN (with the endpoint LAN as DMZ). V 7.2 does have a slightly faster processor (240MHz) however at the cost of less memory (RAM & ROM). |

with the amount of new technologies out like IPv6 which is important going forward and 802.11n which gives faster speed and greater range, you're honestly better off getting a faster router. I'm not sure of your price range, but I picked out this low cost model if you want to stay within the Linksys brand. » homestore.cisco.com/en-u ··· prod.htm however if you do decide to go with that speed tier from Charter a gigabit equipped router will do you good. » homestore.cisco.com/en-u ··· prod.htm |

Makes sense, I hate to give up the old warhorse, but time to move forward. Thank you both for the info. |

Here are some test results of WAN to LAN throughput for various router models: » www.smallnetbuilder.com/ ··· rts/viewIf you're comfortable with Tomato, I would recommend the ASUS RT-N16 running TomatoUSB. » www.newegg.com/Product/P ··· 33320038» tomatousb.org/ |
