[Food] The Cooking Channel and WWII England

Watching a very interesting, and a a little heartbreaking show about how people in England lived gastronomically during the harsh rationing of WWII. The things those poor folks ate, oh my goodness, we in the USA had it so much better. Makes me thinking about what it is like where folks are poor.

Good food helps the soul, bad food can cause misery/depression just as quick as lack of sunlight or love.

Gastronomic treats included snails, grass, and paraffin. If you can get a opportunity to see the show, check it out, it will really give you pause and deep respect for our friends over the pond.

Incidentally, Churchill ate and drank luxuriously, but it was felt that it was very right that he did by many considering the weight on his shoulders and his station.

Rationing including only 1 egg a week but all the powdered eggs you could eat. Children growing up were so used to powdered eggs, they preferred it after the war's grip freed the folks.

We live in such incredible luxury and abundance today, 1 dollar burgers, even. A burger was an unheard of luxury then. But they were healthier then, too.

As you enjoy Easter/Passover meals, remember our abundance today and those that didn't know such a thing. Grass for lunch, hmm...
