LOL! "I moved from 2 to 5" made me think GHz instead of channels.
For all practical purposes, the 802.11g 2.4GHz band is 3 data channels at roughly channels 1, 6 and 11. For reasons no commercial interest would tolerate, it was split into 11 overlapping channels.
Gee, they should have done 100 channels and make people feel even better - then we'd be using 1, 50 and 100.
The difference between channels 5 and 6 are practically meaningless. If anything significant is gained being on channel 5 vs. 6 then your data is fooling you.
5GHz is possibly the place to be by yourself in a lot of places right now. But everyone's mileage will vary.
