Android runtime

Back in 2008/2009 there were much buz on the internets about Canonical working towards Android apps running on ubuntu. This topic seems to have gone silent. What ever happened to this idea?

All I have seen is getting the android sdk and running the emulator.

I haven't tried the emulator, since I have android devices.

ASUS needs to make a dock that allows me to connect to the television. That would be very cool!

If ASUS can do that, I can have a smartphone that can turn into a mobile computer that can hook up to my TV, or turn a smartphone into a tablet and then into a laptop!

I'd like to see Kubuntu for Android; I'm not a Ubuntu guy anymore as I couldn't find myself getting used to Unity, especially if I'm connecting it to a 50" HDTV running at 1920x1080.

Is this basically a ubuntu ROM, like CyanogenMod?

Not that I know of. I'm not sure where one can get instructions to do this. It requires Android already installed with root, and then putting Ubuntu on it under a chroot.
