Re: "Undesirable" customers: Cogeco, Audet

He really isn't shooting him self in the foot. If they really don't make money on these customers (and they probably don't make much) then they have nothing to lose by running them off. These guys are not charities, they are in this business to make money.

I've invested in different companies (not this one) and I've done that to make money. If I want to do something charitable then I'll donate to a charity, otherwise I want an ROI on my money and not in 50 years.

LMAO.

Yeah, it's a bit of a problem.

They'll likely bleed thousands more, but they are after all in an oligopoly position with protected territories and a population largely comprised of sheep.

They'll simply lower usage caps, raise prices, and make up a good chunk of the difference.

"undesirable"?

I recall Best Buy US saying something similar a few years ago about some customers. They came up with a grading system for the most desirable to least desirable customer.

Someone mentioned earlier death spiral for Cogeco...judging what's happening with Best Buy US right now that wouldn't be too far off if Cog follows the path of Best Buy.

Sick thing is with the protected markets Cogeco has you'd think they'd be able not to be a sinking ship like Best Buy but I guess not...

You mean pissing on the portion of the customer base that you want to get rid of? I don't fit in that category of users that jump from promotion to promotion so I could care less if the CEO of the ISP I am using makes a comment about people who jump from promotion to promotion.

Feel free to not care but with more and more subscribers disappearing the increased capital costs per customer will increase due to the "everywhere" aspect needed for cable distribution.

Feel free to enjoy paying higher rates because your neighbours have mounted a dish or antenna and subbed to wireless internet/dsl.

What Cogeco is trying to do by tightening credit restrictions is eliminate "promotion hoppers". These are the people who switch every few months. Some of these people don't pay their billls, and are forced to switch. No provider makes money from them. They will be weeded out at the beginning. Cogeco wants to establish a more stable custoemr base. They figure that the good customers will stick around for a long time. They are the ones who make companies money.

Does Audet have some sort of developmental handicap or something? I'm trying to understand how someone that wealthy and supposedly that educated could be such a dumbass.

I must admit I was taken aback by the article... he actually calls people who look for the best bang for their buck "undesirable" customers. So he just insulted 9000 people.

He must get a publicist ASAP.

Tightening credit restrictions will not eliminate "promotion hoppers".

Tightening credit restrictions will eliminate people with bad credit. Some of them don't pay their bills. Some people with good credit don't pay their bills. Some millionnaires don't pay their bills. This is called churn.

The best way to prevent promo hopping (and any other form of churn for that matter) is to offer top notch services at really good prices. In other words... NOT COGECO.

They're bleeding customers because a) TPIA just kicked in, a b) their services are lacking and their prices are absurd.

Not. Rocket. Science.

Audet is full of shit. Plain and simple.

Yep these comments have me starting at looking at Bell for TV (only other option in my building, wish they went with Shaw Direct) and START for internet. Screw Cogeco and their low caps, high prices, and compressed to hell HD channels.

Can't wait to see what the retentions dept does when they do the standard cold calls asking people to come back, or send them cards in the mail.

Wonder if it will be addressed to, "Dear Loser"?

Has anyone here left them and got any calls yet or a mailing of some sort? It will be very interesting to see.

The owner doesn't want you, You're a loser. But, will they bug you just the same to go back to them?

Yeah, and I heard that Funk & Wagnall's (dictionary) just called/tweeted, saying that they want to change the spelling of 'audacity' to 'audetcity'.
