said by me1212:I've got an old box laying around that im planning to turn into a server to host games at LANs. Right now its got 2GB DDR2 and a c2d e4300. Its okay for now, it can do host a left 4 dead 2 game, but I'd like to be able to do at least 3 games at once. I've been looking into upgrading the box, and puting in 4GB ram(maybe 8 depends on prices) and see if I can find a decently priced q6600 to replace the e4300. Not exactly an amazing server, but I think it would work okay for doing 3 games at a LAN, but I'm no where near a server expert so I thought it best to ask for advice before I sink money into it.
I recently picked up a Dell Workstation for dirt cheap from the Dell Direct site, basically open box or off lease boxes , Dual Quad Xeon Processors , it only had 4gb of RAM, but I beefed it up to 20gb.
Would be more expensive then updating the old box, but would give you a big upgrade for the money.
