 | reply to backfeed I still don't exactly know what happened, was it Dell's fault or was it the data center's fault? |

scanpaPremium join:2006-09-06 Lebanon, PA | power failure... backup, aux power sources did not kick in, UPS for the rack failed. Raid HD lost power in mid write.... the list goes on... |

 | wow. I wonder what would happen if all the premium members of the site request monetary compensation during the service outage. |
|
 | reply to lordie I had serious withdrawal symptoms like most of us when DSLReports.com went down. I began to recover, but it was hard.
The cascade of events that caused the crash of the site might be unprecedented. It sounds like Justin had things set up properly: RAID redundancy, battery backup, etc. I'm not sure he could have done much more.
He said something about using a different site in the "cloud" to host DSLR. Hopefully their equipment is more reliable. -- There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.

 | I really don't think it was Dell's fault. |
|
 | more like the data centers power systems the UPS at data centers are really just there to ride out the time it takes for the back up power systems to start up and switch over. |

Anon | reply to Streetlight It was a tough 2 weeks for me also.
I noticed that when I went to log in, the system did not recognize my original login name, so I created this "telcodadnj" one temporarily until the the site is fully restored.
It looks to me that the site was restored only up to a point on Sept. 17, 2010. Since I created my login only last September, it was not in the restored database, unlike most of the other long-time posters here. |

| reply to Mike Wolf said by Mike Wolf:wow. I wonder what would happen if all the premium members of the site request monetary compensation during the service outage. This isn't the time to address that. If, after the final restoration of the site is final, issues like missing account upgrades, MVM tags, etc. will be fixed. The hope is that recovered data will restore these things as they were.
A few places to look for info, if people haven't already:

 | reply to scanpa I think that money is what is keeping this site operating right now. Couldn't imagine breaking the bank spending thousands of dollars to keep a site open. I know how much it costs to try to recover data on a broken hard drive it isn't cheap. Thankfully for me Seagate fixed it for me since there was an firmware update they forgot to push to my computer. |

scanpaPremium join:2006-09-06 Lebanon, PA | reply to Mike Wolf why would we want our $$$ back???? I don't. the $$ is for the upkeep of the site. No need for me to complain about the down time. Crap happens. I have my own dedicated server co located at THEPLANET Datacenter, and I have had the HDD go bad and need replaced. |

Since I created my login only last September, it was not in the restored database, unlike most of the other long-time posters here. I had a problem logging in using my "Russ" account. I think someone else was using that account name back in 2010 and the email address is not mine. So I created the new "RKB" account. I am hoping that after the data recovery I can go back to the "Russ" account. |

| Some people do. It was changed before because someone was just sure it wasn't readable. After many, many, many, many adjustments it turned out that person's video was messed up. It wasn't the forum. It was the computer.
After all the work, I just left it. For now, what we have is what we have, anyway. So, love it while it is here. One thing I know is that not everyone loves any theme. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |
