optimum to fios back to optimumWelcome back dslreports!!
ok i had optimum for 10 years and on april 7th switched to fios because of the hype and a good deal. well 1 month later and im back to optimum. my hd on fios wasnt that great. channels like , G4 TBS,TNT,MTV, and basic cable channels didnt look great at all. Sometimes it was like watching a youtube video. Sports channels looked incredible on fios .Sometimes i would get ghosting thou and i dont know why because on optimum i dont. Optimum has been installed as of 1 hour ago and the channels i listed above look great. there is some pixelation on some channels but it clears up. I got the samsung boxes and was so happy thinking they wouldnt have channel lag and OMG its even worse than the scientific atlanta boxes. I just dont understand why cablevision boxes are so bad. i have a question . How do I rewind live tv? I have multiroom dvr and can record but cant rewind live tv. |

I do not believe that feature is available on multiroom DVR. You would need to get a DVR box or other solution (cablecard) to have that capability. |

Pretty sure this isn't available with dvr plus, unless you're actually recording the channel of course. |

oh ok. i used to have the old scientific atlanta box and it would allow rewinding of live tv.i assumed the samsung boxes would function the same way. When i went to fios my package was ultimate , all movie channels, 25/25,phone, for $109 my bill was $147 To come back to optimum I got the Gold package ,hbo/starz/tmc/showtime/encore on demands free for 2 years, dvr plus,50/5 boost plus, all for 2 years i also got mlb extra innings free for this season and iwas offered International channels free but i turned them down and i was offered free porn for 2 years but i turned that down, I dont really need it. and the phone service. for $130 and with taxes it comes out to like $142. So its not too bad,I just wished the cable boxes operated faster. |

I called to cancel fios and they said they would lower my monthly bill another $25 if I stay and they will send a team free of charge to undo what cable vision did . LoL on top of that my wife just called and said she might want to keep fios . Lol fml |

Throwin in my two cents supporting optimum lol. $82/mo after all costs triple play, free international for two years no movie channels. No contract, which is good but I have to think of a gameplan for when the year is over for all the discounts :-/ because fios gave me nothing when I cancelled :/ well except for the offer to lower my bill from $228 to $219.99.........U def can't compare the quality of the feed or the boxes to cable vision ...like at all :/ |

Better get these low price deals quick as Cablevision has already signaled that they will need to stop offering the low pricing for new accounts soon during a conference call with the media. |

Got a reference? I don't think there is any way they are going to abandon the low pricing for new accounts and retention.
If makes no sense that they would spend all this money marketing and advertising their low introductory pricing, and then throw it all away. They think they can control pricing in a competitive market??
If the "media" on the call had an ounce of smarts they would have called them out on it. |

After living in NYC and getting 1 meg down for months due to only having 3 channels on boost plus, OOL heard that fios was planning to fully cover our area within the next three months (which only has OOL option right now) 3 weeks later no net for 6 hours and when it came up, this. well it worked... consistent 60mb so no need to change to fios since I will get better speeds on OOL for less as long as nothing goes wrong. So thank you Fios, for fixing my OOL net after I couldn't get it done myself. |

Could be coincidence. We have 5 bonded downstream channels and perfect speeds here, and no competition other than dsl. |

Yes, I saw that. I interpreted it as they would not be raising prices in 2012, and would even lower introductory rates until they were too low to make economic sense.
I guess time will tell - I just don't see rates rising. I think they will continue to offer ever higher internet speeds at the same rates, as they have done for the past 10 years, have regular increases in TV rates, and keep the introductory pricing. |

For full disclosure, after the last conference call, I began adding some CVC to my stock portfolio and I am therefore somewhat "following the stock". From the latest conference call. » seekingalpha.com/article ··· anscriptsaid by seekingalpha :Philip Cusick - JP Morgan Chase & Co, Research Division
When you spoke in February, you talked about backing off on some of the aggressive promotions that had been in the market. You just mentioned maybe a little bit of a less aggressive stance from Verizon. And will that help buoy ARPU a little bit in the second quarter versus the first?
James L. Dolan
Well, that would be a forward-looking statement that we probably aren't -- or probably can't do. But I mean, the logic is, if the price is up, that revenue would be associated with that. That's about the best we can do, I think, in terms of that.
Gregg G. Seibert
If I could add that on the last call, what we were highly focused on, was there were analyst reports about $69.95 Triple Play promotions that had been in the market, both on our part and on the part of FiOS. We don't see those promotions in the marketplace at this point in time. That was one of the key points. I think that competition on a base-level promotion is not as intense as it is right now as it has been in the past. As I mentioned previously, the conference call was filled with information which I believe most of us in the forum would find interesting. |

ok so fios gave me to the 13th to decide if i wanted to stay with them and accept the additional $25 off my already lowered bill and i decided to keep optimum. its not perfect and I seriously HATE these cable boxes ,they are so slow. Also what is bothering me about optimum that didnt happen on fios was having film mode " true motion" turned on my tv sometimes would make the programs stutter slightly or look like they were slowing down for a split second. This issue never happened on fios. This only happens on my 120 hz hdtv and i have tried 3 different boxes and this had happened in the passed before i switched to fios.
I called fios on the 12th and they offered an additional $10 plus the $25 they offered me before which would make my ultimate package about $107 with taxes included.
but my wife prefers optimum even with its faults so we are staying. |

You need to turn Film Mode off on your TV. not the box
There is a new UI coming to Optimum which is supposed to speed up the interface |

My brother in law can top your story. He switched to FIOS. Cablevision kept billing him. His wife called Cablevision to complain (not hearing her husband saying we switched to FIOS). They told her she'd have to pay outstanding bills first. So she paid via credit card and told them to come the next day to 'fix her problem' and reconnect her to CV. fhl (my brother in law that is). |

Yes, this is probably what's happening now.. boost plus may end up being the entry level speed 50/XX and boost plus will have to go higher to keep pace with what Verizon plans to roll out around June 18: 25/25 to 50/25--- 35/35 or 50/20 to 75/35, and 150/75 to 300/75 (or 100).
35/35, 50/20 was comparable to 50/8 but 75/35? not really main difference is Verizon would be $10-$30 more expensive than cablevision @ $44.90 - $64.90
let the race begin... last one to a gigabit is a rotten egg.. |

Unfortunately for HFC to ever compete with fiber, Cablevision is going to have to rapidly start bonding upstream channels. I think I may see Google fiber in my town before any upstream bonding and LTE Advanced before IPv6. |

Ah yes, the demise of HFC. That obituary has been written many times. So far, it has proven to be a very cost-effective and competitive last-mile solution. |

People dont understand its not the coax that is causing the bandwidth crunch. Its the way its being used. Heck EPOC can bring 10gig/10gig speeds over coax. cablevisions HFC is not going anywhere. IF what cablevision and the others have been testing is any indication cable companiesin the future will have one big data pipe to each home over the coax and everything will be Ip driven. Instead of everything being split up on the coax. |
