I haven't seen any of the individual films, iron man, CA, Thor, but I kinda DO want to see this. Maybe because it's a geek-fest as far as several superheroes at once, don't know, but something about it makes me want to go see it.
The movies will be getting some of my money this summer.
Oh Id go just to see Scarlett Johansson in something black and skintight,
Although I did read the comics when I was a kid.
BTW, I guessed the enemies would be the Skrull when the trailers made it seem as if they were extraterrestrial and they showed Cap give the Hulk the order to Smash in one of the trailers
actually the ones faught in the movie weren't skrull but in the scene after the cool credits theres a single skrull that's being told how picking a fight with earth is like asking for death, so in the next movie I'd bet on the srkull playing a bigger part.
the scene where Hulk beat the crap outa loki was pure awsome
loki: I'm a god and won't be bullied by the likes of... Hulk: go on slaming Loki so hard the cement floor starts breaking
Then Loki just lay there in the crator on the cement floor made by hulk's smashing as though loki were just some club, it was cool how hulk just interupted Loki like that
I was expecting Hulk to say something like Hulk smash puny asgard
He did say 'Puny God' but the laughter in the theatre drowned it out ... it was sooo funny. The Face at the end was Thanos....he's a God wannabe...look him up and he's very tied into the cosmic cube/tesseract...and he's courts death so that line at the end where the attach leader says to attack earth is to court death...it means he will be back and it willl be cosmic
Thank you I got my wires crossed. I told my kids he was Darkseid, which is I recall is a DC creation. Thanos, the being who loved/worshipped death. I seem to recall him being a major player in Marvel's first Secret Wars. Spider-man had a bit part in that cross over event, I think.
Your title says "advengers' not avengers which is the proper spelling.
All in all, a decent movie by the guy that created Buffy verse and Firefly.
I'm willing to bet Disney is very happy that John Carter was a bomb, right about now. Imagine their tax bill if John Carter was a box office hit, and then add to it the money they will be making from this.
I just wish Spidey wasn't going to be an origin film. We had two origin flicks with the Hulk, and now will get another with the reboot of spider-man.
This movie had a few nice things in it. Sadly, they could have spent more time on Pepper Potts legs. Damn Gwyneth can rock some short shorts. Sure Scarlett was ok looking in her outfit as well. Then there was Fury's "second in command'. She wasn't to shabby either.
Oops, I forget. A tip of the hat to the unsung hero behind many of the characters appearing in the Avengers movie, and no it's not the media whore Stan Lee. It's Jack Kirby. Thanks Jack for sharing your imagination with the rest of us. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kirby
At least after 1 bad and 1 ok films they got the hulk right....he even had a bit of dialog there...loved the bit after he and Thor took down one of the big ships....lol...Joss can sure script the funny.
I am so happy there were no "origins" in this movie. And yes, I agree this Hulk version seemed to be ok, as a supporting role. Out of the 3 actors to play Hulk, I still think Edward Norton did it the best, as Banner.
I just wish there'd be another peek into the firefly universe.
Speaking of good movie, The Advengers (wtf is wrong with you) Avengers shattered movie sales records by scoring over 200 million dollars! Congrats to a hell of a movie!
quote:The Avengers is the new king of the opening weekend.
The superhero movie grossed a unprecedented $200.3 million in its Friday-Sunday box-office debut, its studio estimated.
The film is the first to break $200 million in three days. It destroyed the mark held by the previous weekend record-holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
After just over a week in release worldwide, The Avengers has grossed $641.8 million overall.
The Avengers, $200.3 million Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, $169.2 million The Dark Knight, $158.4 million The Hunger Games, $152.5 million Spider-Man 3, $151.1 million The Twilight Saga: New Moon, $142.8 million The Twilight Saga: Breaking DawnPart 1, $138.1 million Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, $135.6 million Iron Man 2, $128.1 million Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, $125 million
how do they tally that? they charge me 2 dollars more now for matinee... used to be $6.50 when I saw Avatar now its $8.50... is that total just ticket sales inclusive of the big 3D markups and iMax too?
Funny how Disney was crying about all the money it lost on John Carter. It seems they have shut up about it as the money rolls in on the Avengers. The number doesn't even consider the merchandise that is being sold in the stores either. Another thing John carter didn't have, as well as appeal to the younger crowd.

It includes all the ticket sales (Regular,3D,iMAX) of the 4,349 theaters across the U.S that are showing the movie. One thing that did help the sales seems to be inflation of ticket pricing. Less tickets were sold than other movies but the markup on 3D really helped make the difference.
