I'm surprised they finally classified and made it legal to drive a "scooter".
I remember thinking about getting one while I was in high school but they were not legal to use on the road under any circumstances and I didn't want to risk getting busted for using one. Their motors also tend to be very small two stroke engines, which require a bit of tinkering to keep working.
Looks like they have given up and are giving a pass on them. It looks like there is zero safety or emissions standards for them, while real motorcycles do.
It's hard to argue the coolness factor of a "real" motorcycle but I think motor-scooters are a bit more practical day to day.
If you haven't picked up something already, I recommend you look at a honda elite (»
powersports.honda.com/20 ··· ite.aspx). It has a *ton* of storage (for a two wheel vehicle) and it should have plenty of zip for going around town. I had an older one (120cc) that could comfortably go 50-55mph and I just loved it.
From the review's I've read, It can fit TWO full size helmets under the seat, it has a glovebox, a hook to hang grocery bags AND there is an optional rear rack to put a small trunk or milk crate.
