Re: New Guides for SA/Cisco Areas (Info from Ted Hodgins Blog) I have the DCX 3501 with 768MB ram. I used to get 15 days worth of guide data. Now I only get 11. They must have changes something in the software. |

Note, this also applies to the SA 2200 which should be replaced with a newer SA or Cisco STB. quote: Why does my on-screen TV Listings guide only show programming for at most 6 hours in advance? After that, everything is To Be Announced. How can I improve or fix my TV Listings Guide?

quote: @Dwight Oltmanns, I took a look at your account and it looks like you have Motorola DCT 2000 cable boxes. Those are older cable boxes and they do have limited memory capabilities in regards to guide data. In order to get more guide data to display, I would recommend that you exchange your cable boxes for a DCT 700 or anything other than a DCT 2000.
A newer cable box has more memory and will display more days out of guide listings data.
All of our DVRs show about 13-14 days worth of guide data.

This wasn't clear in his previous blog entries, but it was implied. quote: Ted, according to your reply to Dan on 9/21/12, am I correct in saying the only way I can get On-Screen Guide 2.0 is to have my present RNG-200N and three RNG-150's changed by a technician, at the house and also subscribe to Any-Room DVR?

quote: Yes, that is correct. Also need be in an area that has On-Screen Guide 2.0 available.
This new guide experience is currently available in the areas listed below where we use SA/Cisco-branded cable boxes:
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Minnesota. New Mexico is also scheduled for this year.
The new On-Screen Guide 2.0 is delivered to our newest cable boxes (both the Cisco RNG 200N and Cisco RNG 150N) via a different and newer protocol and technology (called OCAP or tru2way).
The Cisco RNG boxes that you have in your home today are not assigned to the tru2way mode and can't be easily flipped or changed into that mode and preserve the current DVR recordings, favorites and other user configurable settings which would be an unfavorable customer experience.

 | reply to Russ Really depends on the button. |

I wouldn't assume that. Comcast can program the X1 guide to respond to a button that is on an older remote but missing from the XR2 remote if it wants to. It may depend on the function of the button. I think removing the functionality of a button on an older remote would just make customers mad without providing Comcast any benefits. -- SA 8300 HD DVRs with Patched S25 Guide Links: 'S25 Guide Blog' 'Schedule' 'Info' 'Patch Thread' |

Well, in the description for the XR2 remote, it does say "there are fewer buttons so you can quickly find the functions you're looking for," and I do see that there are a few buttons missing, such as "FAV" and "HD Zoom," from the XR2 compared to the Platinum remote. Those functions appear to be accessed from inside the new on-screen guides (2.0 and 3.0) themselves.
You can compare the buttons/layouts for those 2 remotes by looking at their guides here: "Platinum" Remote Guide: »media2.comcast.net/anon.comcasto···lver.pdf XR2 Remote Guide: »media2.comcast.net/anon.comcasto···2911.pdf |

 | reply to GoodOmens Thats good for customers who are familiar with the operation of the current remotes. I still like the new remotes. |

 | reply to Mike Wolf said by Mike Wolf:so then all I would need to do is obtain the XR2 or XR1 remote? I mean I would assume that the remotes would have the same buttons found on the platnium remote in a different position. If you have a RNG150N/RNG200N you won't need a new remote when the guide eventually gets pushed to the box (That is if they still have plans to update the boxes OTA). The existing remote will work fine.
The new remote is only for the next boxes. |

| reply to Russ Glad to hear it though I still like the new remote, especially with the battery level testing command. I wonder what R&D would say. The DTA remote that comes with the Pace and Thompson DTA gear controls the RNG200N and the Platnium RNG200N remote control the Pace and Thompson DTA gear, so maybe the same can be said with the new remote? |

telcodad join:2011-09-16 Lincroft, NJ kudos:2 | reply to Mike Wolf Well Mike, do you have any STBs that are currently running On-Screen Guide versions 2.0 or 3.0, or an HD-DTA?
I didn't think any of those were available in our area yet.
From that webpage on the XR2 Remote:
The new XR2 Remote Control is rolling out with Comcast set-top boxes running the latest version of the on-screen guide - On-Screen Guide 3.0 (X1 Guide) and On-Screen Guide 2.0 (Barcelona), and with High-Definition (HD) Digital Transport Adapter (DTA) devices.
