2 edits | [Connection Sharing] Connect camera (on 10 IP) to NAS (on 192 IP Have 2 routers in series... Cablebox connects to 10 IP which is configured as the router.... 192 IP is the gateway.... Computers and NAS reside here... I've just added a IP Camera on the 10 layer, and have access to it from internet, and all computers on 192 layer.... Also have camera email'ing pics at scheduled times successfully....
What I'm now trying to configure is ftp video to the NAS.... I'm confidant settings I've loaded are correct, but I'm getting FTP connection failed using the 'test' connection feature. Using the ping feature within routers, from the 10 router I can ping the 10 Wan of the 192 router, but not any 192 router IP... So I'm pretty confidant that's where the FTP Connect failed issue resides.... I'm trying to connect to a downstream device, not upstream.... I do have Block Wan Request is disabled on 192 router.
Once I get 192 router IP's seen by 10 router, I'm fairly certain it will connect to NAS...
10 IP Router--- camera on 10 IP 192 IP Router (10 IP WAN, 192 IP Lan) Computers and NAS on 192 IP's
I know just enough to walk myself into a corner.... Which I have done.... But I believe the Ping information is the clue...
Suggestions? -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

Here's a good explanation of ports used by FTP. »slacksite.com/other/ftp.html -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

 | reply to Jan Janowski I'm going to read that link now... but..... How does this affect Pings?
Shouldn't I be able to Ping the address I want to connect to prior to trying to ftp to it? -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

Re: [Connection Sharing] Connect camera (on 10 IP) to NAS (on 19 I want to keep the isolation of 10 and 192.. I guess I could move the NAS... but would prefer not to...
The routers are RVS4000's (Cisco Small Business)

If the router supports it, instead of port forwarding, you can add a second 10.x.x.x address to the WAN port on the 192 router and do a 1:1 NAT between the second WAN IP and the NAS IP.
Either way, once configured correctly, will allow FTP connections between the 10 network and the NAS device on the 192 network. |

2 edits | reply to Jan Janowski Before posting this thread... I had done following: On 10 IP router, put in a 21 port forward to the 10 IP (Wan of the 192 Router)... And on the 192 router, had put in a port 21 forward to the IP of NAS.
This was done before first posting... and it prompted fail to connect.
I've read the link, and I can't say I 100% understand it. Did it did have me look at the NAS documentation.... NAS Docs Doesn't say it's Active or Passive FTP, just mentions port 21 once, no mention of port 20 or 1023.... or Active.... Or Passive FTP....
So.......
Do I need to do a Port 20 or 1023 FWD on 192 Router point back to the 10 WAN or the 192 Router?
and same on 10 Router pointing back at Camera? -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

billaustinthey call me Mr. BillPremium,MVM join:2001-10-13 North Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | What address are you using when you attempt to FTP from the camera to the NAS? |
|
1 edit | I have the complete 192 address and name of the NAS:
\\192.x.x.156\nasname\
and when I test it, it reports:
Error: Ftp connecting failed
Now if I use that same \\192.x.x.156\nasname\ at any computer on 192, it connects to the NAS.
That's why I tried pings.. From 10 router's ping utility, Once I turned off Block Wan in 192 router, I can ping the 10 IP WAN of the 192 router, but not the 192 router's base address.... or the NAS on 192...... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

 | reply to Jan Janowski I did just find a Passive enable switch on Camera that is enabled...

3 edits | NAS, router, or camera? In the configuration of the camera?
So instead of: \\192.x.x.156\nasname
You want: 10.x.x.x/8
Or in the 10 router, instead of camera? From 10.x.x.x Where X is the WAN IP of 192 router to 10.x.x.x/8 ???

 | Let me clear up a couple other things..
In the 192 router I'm forwarding port 20 & 21 to Wan IP of 192 router... 10.x.x.x Should this remain or change to the 'base address' of the 10 router?
In the 10 router, I'm port forwarding port 20 & 21 to the IP of the Camera....
I have not set port 1023 to do anything, anywhere...
In the camera, it's pointing to \\10.x.x.x\nasname (The WAN IP of the 192 router) and the camera is set for passive ftp...
Anything need to be changed? -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

billaustinthey call me Mr. BillPremium,MVM join:2001-10-13 North Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | In the 192 router, forward the FTP ports to the IP address of the NAS unit.
In the camera, enter ONLY the WAN IP of the 192 router as the FTP destination. |

 | reply to Jan Janowski Thanks for the information... Still getting FTP CONNECT FAILS on test from camera to NAS through the routers...
In each of the routers, 10 and 192, I have a diagnostic page, where I can do a Ping and a traceroute to IP's....
On the 192 router I have Disabled "Block WAN Request".
On the 192 IP I can traceroute and ping the IP's on the 10 IP area: Base IP of 10 router 10 IP of (WAN) of 192 router The Camera on 10 Router. As well as the 192 Router devices, NAS, and computers, printers... From this I deduce that I can see 'upsteam' and '192 IP'
However... On the 10 IP Router diagnostic, I CAN Ping BUT CANNOT Traceroute The WAN IP, (That should be unblocking WAN Request), But I CANNOT PING OR TRACEROUTE ANY Device on the 192 router: NAS, WAN IP, Base Address of 192 router, other computers, printer, etc... From this I deduce I cannot see 'downsteam'
I'm not good with IP Stuff (That's why I posted here), but again I feel it's something in the 192 router...... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

 | I never thought to try.... No, Filezilla can't connect to it.... I tried both Passive and Active.

billaustinthey call me Mr. BillPremium,MVM join:2001-10-13 North Las Vegas, NV kudos:3 | Setup the FTP service on the NAS box. Use Filezilla to confirm it is working. You will need the IP address (in 192.x.x.x format), user name (usually admin) and password to test the connection from Filezilla. Once that is working, the rest should be easy. |

I believe the ftp server runs from the camera, during the test and timed events... Here's a pix of the failure message, which I believe confirms this...
Note that earlier I changed default HTTP from port 80 to 1819 and I just changed it all back to 80, in case this was the cause of the FTP Connect Error.. but it wasn't....
