[complaint] kudos

Before the site went AWOL, I had 17 kujos

Where are they and why can I not see them.

Are you saying that you saw the site notices that full functionality was not yet available but posted a complaint anyway?

I'm saying that most functions are not available and what and I doing here. My posting tag even reverted to what it was in 2010.

Well that kind of stuff happens when there's a hardware failure and the site owner is paying big bucks to try and recover data. I guess he's not working fast enough for some folks...

Lol! You think you've got problems? I waited 8 years to get my very first (and only), kudos. And it's gone "poof".
You had 17? Yeah, sure you did. Prove it.

Seriously though, I'm surprised anyone is posting in "site bugs" at all yet. It's pretty clear this whole thing was pretty much a catastrophe, and I think we're lucky to be posting at all.
And for that I'm VERY thankful. We must be patient.
Beside that, not only am I getting a kick out of some of the 2010 threads, but I get to pick on people posting in the site bugs forum as an added bonus.

Don't feel bad. Jaykaykay has a green devil now for an avatar....that was meant to be for St. Patrick's day which was some time ago now. I like it but that is because I love green color but I think JKK would like the usual red devil avatar back. I'd like to be able to see my correct post count. I imagine there are lots of little things not currently working that we all would like to have back. But I, and I think all of us, are very relieved and grateful that we have this much back and that Justin didn't just throw in the towel when the price to fix the problems grew so big.

The function I am missing the most is that my home page "postlist" from Sept 2010 doesn't have any posts on the first three pages for many of the forums that I want to access. I used to access them from "postlist" as I don't use "favorites". Having to click on "forums" on the blue toolbar drives me nutty because I cannot find the forum I want in that list. Search is no help. I typed "bugs" in the All Forums search box because I couldn't find this forum in that long list after looking repeatedly. Forum search told me there is no forum named "bugs". Geez. I guess you have to type the full, exactly correct name of the forum to have search find it on the All Forums page.

So, I'd sure like to have my Postlist up to date so I didn't need to use All Forums page so much. Does anyone have the link to the old All forums page that is easier to use? I can't find it in my bookmarks and I don't even know if it is currently working but if it is I'd rather use it.

Since the forum search isn't working all that reliably right now, you could for the time being use the "choose favorites" page ( »/forums/all?choose=1 ) to find the forums you're interested in and use the links there (and maybe bookmark them).

Heck. I found my link to the old All Forums page that is easier to use (I feel). But it is from Oct 23, 2010. That is slightly later than the snapshot dslr is currently running on so it doesn't exist.

Yes, I could succumb to making favorites but I never liked that idea and still don't...we'll see.

Yup, I did. Now keep in mind that some of those forums have been closed, and some are missing since they were created after the list came out. But it's the same list as before:

Understood fatness See Profile - I was just taking a stab and causing trouble as I'm know to do from time to time.

Perhaps once all site functions are back to normal those that were Kudosed more than once by the same person could have their points adjusted accordingly, yes ?

Some of those would be active in this thread, IIRC.

Mahalo!

That link comes with the site remembering what forums I visited from that page and showing those links in my visited links colors.

There are some forums missing and several I know why they are missing ...not new forums either. But why is The Pub and the Watercooler missing? They have been around for a long time.

Anyhow, that page is much faster for finding a forum. It is not though any good if you want a preview of the latest posts in a specific forum. For that, you need the new All Forums page.

Actually, picking favorites and using the Favorite Forums page is much better at that.

Picking favorites is better for previews of posts in forums? I didn't know favorites did that. I don't understand the point of favorites. I'd have to list most every forum. You use the All forums page for all the forums that you don't go to constantly. How would putting all those forums in favorites be helpful? If you go to a forum constantly then, unless you are a lurker, you would be posting in it and then you just access that forum from your postlist/all page which is my home page on all browsers.

It is just because the site is not showing recent posts that I have a problem now until I post in all forums I go to all the time. I've been doing it this way since long before Justin introduced favorites. I didn't see much point then in favorites and still don't. I can see though that someone who joined here after Justin created favorites and started doing it that way from the beginning would like it and would be puzzled by us old timers who still do it the old way.

I didn't use it for a long time -- just used postlist; but I've been using favorites for awhile now, and I think it's pretty useful for following one's "picks". (You have to use the 'slow' view to see the [up to] 8 most recently updated topics with new posts in a forum.)

They are not missing here.

There's probably some missing data on what private forums you have access to (just guessing).

They are not missing in the old All Forums list for you? They are not private forums. There are private forums not in the old All Forums list but Watercooler and Pub have been around for ever and have nothing to do with how long you have been a member here or if you have applied for admission. So, I don't understand why they are not in the old All Forums list. I don't use them but I noticed they are not in the list. Pub Games is listed but not the Pub. I guess they are just not there because that is a pre Oct 2010 list but I thought it odd those two were missing. Others that are missing, I can understand why as they are private, require a level of membership, or certain length of membership, etc.

If you are referring to what forums are listed if you use the new list from "Forums" on the blue tool bar, they are there as are all private, etc forums that I have access to. It is just the old list that is easier to use where they are missing and they are not private anyway so they should not be missing on the old list.

I think she meant(?) missing from that page in the FAQ (which I assumed was the case because they're "private" and, thus, intentionally excluded from a "public" FAQ--this one anyway [there are some other FAQ in which they're mentioned]).

(Heh, lookey there--she posted just before I did. )

If we're talking about the forums list in the FAQ (as you alluded), then yes, I left them out on purpose. There shouldn't be any "private" forums (or, forums anonymous users can't reach) listed in there.

Oh. Ok. But those two aren't private are they? I understand leaving out the private ones. Are you saying that anon cannot access pub or watercooler? If so, after all these years here, I did not know that. But then I only access those two if someone links to a post there in a forum thread I am reading so I guess I am ignorant about any requirements for them.

OTOH maybe it has been so long that I have had access to them that I have completely forgotten that you have be registered and make x number of posts or something first...I've been here too long. I've also forgotten about trinkets and stars...but now I am reminded...I wish we still had stars.

You are correct - they are not there. I am seeing them on the post-tracker page.

They are not private forums.

Yes, they are.

This is probably just a problem with missing data. Previously, the "all forums" page showed those private forums to which one had access, but not those to which one did not have access. I could (previously) see the pub when logged in, but not when logged out.

They are perhaps using a temporary list that works for everyone, while still attempting to recover data.
