Then I could understand somewhat the reluctance to roll out the x1 guide that they have available in many areas including my own. Now yes you can get this guide but you have to pay for professional installation and new boxes. Now I don't have The boxes that can handle the new x1 guide. But for those people who do why not just give them the new x1? Why make it difficult and cumbersome. To me what comcast is doing is blackmailing people. If you want the new guide Then you have to give us more money, Because we are going to take our dear sweet time with upgrading the old guide.

Other cable companies use it too.

WRONG! This misinformation keeps getting spread around the forum for some reason...
Rovi does not own I-Guide! Gemstar's guide was turned into a co-owned product with Comcast (their biggest user of the guide) in 2004. Then Rovi (who bought up Gemstar's assets) sold their part to Comcast in 2010. It is now wholly owned by Comcast. Yes they license it out to other MSOs if they want it, but Comcast owns it 100% now. Rovi still distributes it for Comcast to other MSOs. And Comcast has a relationship with Rovi for the guide listings data.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GuideWorks
