| [MO] "Online Basic" Fee Sooo... why do you advertise a price of $54.95 for 20Mbps, but then tack on a $15 fee if people don't have cable? Why not charge $69.95 for it and discount that $15 for people who have cable? At least then it wouldn't be total false advertising.
Anyway, the $15 is ridiculous. I couldn't believe my ears when I turned in my set top box (we haven't watched TV in 3 months, so we decided to take it back) It's basically punishment for those of us who only want internet from you. Who do I need to talk to in order to get this fee removed? Retention? I work for a competitor and could easily get discounted service from them, but prefer to keep Mediacom because of the connection speed I can get for the price, but I might just have to leave if I can't get this fee removed.
Honestly, though, the '$x for y months! (then $2x for the remainder of your contract and if you break it you pay crazy cost $z)' BS needs to stop, from all carriers. -- »/im/82288374/5591.png |

That is why they came in to being, the basis for the payment structure, and how everyone involved makes money. Internet service and phone are add-ons to all this that came about later.
I agree with you that it is potentially false advertising not to list the full price with the fee. But the purpose of the game is to get people to sign on the dotted line for the contract, and a higher price (although honest it may be) won't necessarily get that to happen. |

| reply to TheRogueX To get rid of the fee you need to cancel your service or get a promo pricing.
You guys should be happy you can get internet only service. The way things are going I don't think that will always be the case. See how telcos are going back to no DSL without phone service? Well with the way things are going for cable cos I expect something similar to happen with cable internet.
I guess all that streaming and satellite "VOD" will end up costing a lot more...
PS there will be a one time truck roll fee (around $15) when they install the trap on your line. -- I speak for myself, not my employer. |

Anyway, the $15 is ridiculous. $70 a month for 12/1 Internet is ridiculous. There was a long thread I started several months ago about this. At the time I was on DSL wanting to get Mediacom Internet. Because of this fee I refused to get MC Intenet. Later MediacomChad got me a 2 year promo at a good price without the $15 fee.
When my 2 year contract runs out if the $15 fee comes on my bill, I will go back to DSL. FWIW I had DSL with phone service with no bogus fees because I did not have a telephone.
I looked into Mediacom TV service and it is way overpriced and limited in equiptment and HD Channels compared to my Directv service.. Mediacom can not compete in TV service, at least they are not right now.

This was before the cable companies had competition with Directv, Dish, streaming, etc. It is a completely new world now, with many choices for TV. Mediacom no longer has a monoloply and from what I have seen can not or will not compete in TV service. Mediacom TV service costs more, has less channels and their equipment is 10 years behind DTV/Dish.. |

 | I could get U-Verse HSIA24 for $60/month... if it was available where I live. Seriously, that's the only reason I haven't done it yet. |

 | TheRogueX,
Where in 65807 are you located? I've seen several VRADs pop up over the past several months in the zipcode. I am seriously looking at IP-DSLAM dsl from the one just a few hundred feet from me. AT&T says $29.95 per month for 12mbps down. Since I am coming off a promo rate with Mediacom I'm pretty sure AT&T will be the less expensive choice.
Hope a VRAD pops up near you soon. |

| reply to Lazy Senior_t I wouldn't want to go back to half speed to avoid $15 unless speed was not important to me. Although DSL cost less than $55 without that stupid $15 fee, more like $40-$45 or less if you're on promo. Comcast charges up to around $63 for 20/4 mb if you don't have basic cable.
I agree their equipment is total cra*. it looks like pre-2000 comcast boxes. I had one DVR that was loosing recorded shows!.
The problem with DirecTv is its satellite and dishes are not allowed everywhere, especially if you rent. Your landlord won't allow you install and you have no recourse in this situation to appeal to FCC unless you have your own porch or balcony (common areas are excluded). |

 | reply to TheRogueX the fee does "hurt" a little though. seems a lot to pay for not using their tv service. |
