| reply to HiVolt Yeah I noticed that limit after I put 4 in my shopping cart and then went WTF!
My friend is ready to pull the trigger on a Synology 4-bay and we wanted to load it up with 4 of these for a 9TB RAID5 array. It was going to serve a media/application hub for his new house, as well as remote backups for a few other locations.
The waiting game continues...
+1 btw for a 4TB drive. The 4TB WD RE is just too expensive and I really like the RE drives. I currently only use RE drives in my NAS but the need for greater capacity is outgrowing the need for performance/absolute reliability. |

As far as I'm concerned, they're both the same, they both fail equally as much. Typically I see 1 out of 10 Seagate SAS drives fail in a year and maybe 1 out of 10 WD SATA RE's fail in a 3 year period, not sure of Seagate's enterprise SATA drives... in the desktop space, they all fail once in a while. |

To put in an IMAC early 2008. I talked to the local apple store they will do it for me (change out components) for a reasonable price. Of course will need to buy the 2.5 to 3.5 caddy for the SSD to rpelace the main hard drive and the SATA to PATE caddy for the 2.5 750gb replacing the optical drive. Perhaps I should also get an external hookup and case for the optical drive?
Got 4megs a ram 2x2 in the thing but reading in places where it can actually use up to 6megs. Problem being I would have to buy a 4bangar to replace one of the twos. Have you seen the price for 4mg stick for DDR2 RAM................ -- Ain't nuthin but the blues! "Albert Collins". Leave your troubles at the door! "Pepe Peregil" De Sevilla. I need one or two 3TB hard drives, preferably 7200RPM. If they get down to the $100 level in and around Black Friday, I'll buy them. |

They need to be DDR2. They say you can go to 6GB, one 2 and one 4. -- The irony of common sense, it is not that common. I cannot deny anything I did not say. I wouldn't trust those brands, though. Crucial (at $85) should be OK, for example, or Kingston. -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org |

Yeah, there are some real weird quirks with some of the iMacs of that era. There is one from 2007 that will take a maximum of 2GB of RAM - either as one single 2GB stick, or two 1GB sticks, but for whatever reason it will not operate with two 2GB sticks no matter what you do. EveryMac might say it will work, but it just won't. |

And this is with a chipset that an equivalent PC will support 2x4GB. --

Im videotaping basketball with an old dv low end tape unit that has crappy resolution, lighting and width of field of view. On top of that conversion is a pain in the ass compared to already having it in a digital format. Now to go set up my team for Sundays game (hattrick). |
