LOL 300TB. I got the 3TB for 79.99. Don't think it's worth waiting 2 hours in the cold. Can't feel my toes.

Obviously. Drives are larger, cheaper, and language has evolved to new levels of efficiency.

You got that right...... The 180 500 series for $159 is not bad but I was paying that for the 240 330 series and the 180 330 series was in the 109 range. I even picked up a 120 vertex 3 for $49.

oops my bad. So those drives i was reading it's not a good access drive in other words you don't want it running all day. I'm going to use it for storing all my movies and TV in a media PC as just a storage drive and not the OS drive I take it thing should be ok for those needs.

My media PC runs pretty much all day.

It's a 3+ year old model so it's not going to set any speed records but it's a lot of space at a low price with a 3 year warranty so I think it's worthwhile.

Great drive for a pretty good price. You can't go wrong with an Intel 330.

I've used 2 in the last month for builds and I'm loving the speed

ok I got the 3TB Seagate and put it into the PC today. Ok now it's only seeing 746GB on it so do I need a driver or something? I'm using windows 7 64bit.

You need to format it using a GPT partition table.

... you also won't be able to boot from a drive with a GPT partition table unless you've got an EFI install.

Bios issues, look for an update to your mobo, it has issues with LBA addressing.

You should check that you have the latest bios.

»downloadcenter.intel.com ··· ype=BIOS

While they dont list anything about drive sizes in any of the release notes, it might have been a silent fix along the way somewhere.

ok got it I had to use a program from seagate called DiscWizard. I give it the GPT layout. I take it all should be good now. It's better to not use MBR and use the GPT layout is it not?

»knowledge.seagate.com/ar ··· 218619en

So I got 2.72GB I take it that is right.

That's right, marketing is about using 1000k instead of 1024k for each gb. So your 3tb hd is only that size.

Memory Express has the Intel SSD 330 60GB for $69.99 but alas they are sold out. Went to the store last night and the rep said hopefully they'll have some in next week and probably (hopefully!) still on sale.

This week's sale at NCIX is the first time since pre-flooding levels that I'm seeing 2TBs @ $89 and 3TBs @ $119. Prices are slowly falling back. As a point of reference the WD 3TB Green was $99 before the flooding. I'm encouraged by these trends and looking forward to getting more storage for my HTPC.

Western Digital released their Q4 results yesterday (»wdc.com/en/company/press ··· 07cd7ea5). Their volume in Q4'11 was 28.5m and Q4'12 was 59.2, more than double the year quarter previous!
