Goodbye SE...it was fun while it lasted

I had FiOS installed this week and have begun the unnecessarily complex process of cancelling Speakeasy, er, uh...Megapath. It began with me calling the customer service line and (surprisingly), being immediately connected to a rep. When I said I wanted to cancel, she said "if you had followed the instruction on the phone tree....". I pointed out to her that I had not encountered a phone tree...I was simply connected to her without any action on my part other than dialing their number. Long story short, she directed me to the website where I submitted their cancellation request form. Supposedly it takes up to 72 hours for them to consider cancellation requests. Crazy!

Interesting. It's gotten worse. When I cancelled, I was able to do it over the phone. But that was about a year ago.

The fact that it's an old Speakeasy circuit does factor in here. They may operate as one name, but they are very much two companies and two very isolated networks. (even their f'ing billing cannot get the two straight.) Quick answer... stop paying the bill; they'll cut it off pretty quick then.

I got a confirmation of the cancellation and a survey asking about why I cancelled. We'll have to wait and see if they try to put through another charge on my credit card.

It sure is sad reading all the horror stories on the SE forums as of late. I had their DSL from fall of '04 till early Jan of 08 and it was rock solid and the customer service was awesome. I didn't mind paying the higher prices versus cable since SE never had outage issues. When I finally had to cancel due to having to move it was a quick and smooth process. R.I.P Speakeasy

P.S. The only reason I even visit their website is for the new speedtest they have.

I think I have finally succeeded in getting SE to refund the credit balance on my account. It took two months of emails and phone calls but I finally reached someone who issued the refund to my credit card.

So hopefully, I'm done here. Good luck to all who must still deal with the new Speakeasy, er, uh Megapath.
