join:2002-01-03 | [CATV] DVR backup? Can I make a back up of the recordings I have saved to my DVR? I noticed what looks to be a usb plug on my DVR I just do not know if it can be used to copy the content to a computer hard drive for compression and archiving. My DVR is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC, any help would be appreciated.

you would have to play the content in real time and use a pc wth a video capture card, a dvd recorder, or vcr. |

No. the recordings are married to the box.
even if you pulled the hdd and put on PC, they wouldn't play. |
