1 edit | Anyone playing DayZ Arma 2 mod? Is anyone on here playing the DayZ Arma 2 Mod. I highly recommend it if you ever wanted to play a massive zombie survival game. It's not a typical shooter, your goal is to survive zombie threats and other players wanting everything you have. | Sorry for the delay I played alot last night. I really enjoy it, really good game with alot of potential. The admins permanently banned some cheaters without no chance of "coming back". If anything Arma 2 is a really good military simulator too, it has 225km^2 areas that you can play in with other players or AI. |

Sorry to necro the thread but I first saw some YouTube footage of this mod yesterday and I have to try it out. I bought Combined Ops last night and will install the mod tonight. This marks the first time I've bought a game solely for a mod but it looks too good to pass up. |

Is it like an open world kind of thing? It is. You have 1 persistent character across all servers, but one shot to anywhere on your body besides your leg and you're dead. For good. I read the average character lifespan is around 4 hours. You have to eat, drink, and survive. Other players are more of a danger than the zombies because they're trying to survive too and they want your loots!
This mod has taken Arma and turned it into a true multiplayer survivor horror game. One of the vids I watched said it's almost like a zombie apocalypse MMO.

Just a fair warning, this game is still in beta (maybe even alpha) and there are issues with it. The interface seems a bit clunky to me...Just my opinion. I've played a few times. Hell I spent 2 hours trying to hook up with a friend only to die, respawn, rinse, repeat... Best advice I can give is don't run & gun. You have VERY limited ammo and once you piss off one zombie, usually there's more to follow. Wow, this game is neato. I can't stand these servers, no teamwork/dog-eat-dog, I'm losing hope in my fellow man.
edit for In-game moment: I wasn't too particularly careful checking out a barn. Took too long and a Zed jumped me. I shot it, but I fell and broke a leg. I had to inject morphine just to steady my Winchester enough to take out a zed that was crawling towards to make chump meat me because of the rifle shot. Ran as fast as I could to the nearby forest to escape the zeds, bandaged up, but lost alot of blood. Eventually passed out, woke up, but had to take pain killers just to get moving again. I think I've got 5 rounds left, woozy and semi-deaf from loss of blood, lost in the damn woods, hungry, thirsty, yeah this mod is as close to the zombie apocalypse as one will ever get
This is a pretty darn good mod, for an alpha. |

Having a bit of an issue since the new patch. I can play for 5 - 10 minutes then I crash to desktop. Funny thing is the game is still running and I have full audio and control (i.e. I can hear myself walking around or shooting) but can only see the desktop. I have to alt tab out to close the program. I've googled and am not the only one having this problem but so far haven't seen anyone figure out a solution. I am running the latest build and the latest beta. Any ideas? |

Are you playing it in window'd mode? Vsync? Diff refresh rate?
I would try messing with options of that nature and see if you can get it to stop |

kudos:1 | Yeah the verbiage was making it hard to google. It's not a crash per se but I finally tried that and found some peeps having the same problem. I have played with the options a bit but it hasn't helped. I will tinker some more tonight.
From what I'm reading around the net users affected with this have yet to find a fix, not even a fresh install helps, but it didn't happen before the last build so maybe with the next update it'll be fixed. A guy can hope! In the meantime I'll play around and see if I can get it to stop. Thanks for the advice. |

Hows the game work with friends? Read a post that said its hard to find your friends in game? I've got a few roommates and was gonna gift the game to them if I decided to play it.. but not if I can only play solo....

I suggest you read the bandit forums, it really talks about how low some people get in the game. But if you or anyone else wants to form a DSLR group, I'm down.

You've just now steered me away from wanting to purchase the game. Skurring me when the comments about PK'ers. If PKers scare you, you don't want the game. The tension of not knowing if that other dude is going to kill you or not (and vice versa) is half the fun. And you can meet up with your friends and then lose them again simply because you lost line of sight. This is more of a simulation than a traditional video game.
Also, it's a mod, so you have to buy Arma2 combined ops then install the mod then install the beta patch if you want to play on those servers and hope everything works. It's more complicated than a lot of mods I've used but if you do it right it should work. |
