Re: Verizon upgrading FIOS tiers Thanks for yet another great idea. Think I might install dd-wrt on mine. No need for MoCA with my TiVos! Not available for Rev F. Back to the drawing board. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |

I remember back during cable getting upgraded to 3 and 5mbps+ with less than 1mbps upload was absolutely incredible and blazing. Now I got 83/35 and like "meh, not bad". You need to update your signature |

danclan join:2005-11-01 Midlothian, VA | In testing at work I've not had issue with my ddwrt enabled e3000 hitting 150mbps over wan connection....so I wonder what the differences are.
I don't yet have 150 home service but have had 50/20 for years with no issue with most of the routers I've had.
Worst case is that for whatever reason the latest dd-wrt on e3000 doesnt play well and I move to a 4200v1 or other that supports WDS. |

I would still like the option of 150/65 service, however. We FIOS users are greedy, LOL. I remember back during cable getting upgraded to 3 and 5mbps+ with less than 1mbps upload was absolutely incredible and blazing. Now I got 83/35 and like "meh, not bad". And look how cheap it is per megabit now. Back in 1998 I had 5mb/s down and 1mb/s up from Jones cable for $16 a month($3.2 per megabit). Now FiOS offers the 150mb/s service for around $100 a month as a stand alone product.(which is $.67 per megabit) |

| As I posted before, the upgrade display always selects the top TV tier, so that's likely why your seeing a lower internet tier cost more. There is a -/+ in the TV section of the upgrade so you can lower or increase the level of service ( same for internet ) |

We have the top TV tier and don't want to change that.
Oh I'm so jelly of all you upgraders! haha DH said we could go $10.00/month more but no higher. Gotta watch the budget. Best I can do right now I guess is sit tight with what I have (which actually isn't bad, really) and hope for a sale. |

| reply to jarablue I was able to get out of my triple-play yesterday and down grade to a double play without an ETF , saved ten bucks 75/35 with Extreme vs 35/35 extreme and FDV
Today I changed again down to 50/25 ( posted speed test are showing 58/33 from others ) and Prime as Verizon has this nice new feature to compared the packages and can pick your favorites and only show them for side by side comparison, I picked all the channels I record on the DVR and lost nothing I watch, now down another 20 bucks.
I doubt this is what Verizon had in mind |

Best I can do right now I guess is sit tight with what I have (which actually isn't bad, really) and hope for a sale. I am doing the same thing. My current plan, Ultimate and 35/35 with 9 months left on contract, is $114.99. To switch to Ultimate and 15/5 it would be $124.99. 50/25 was $134.99 and 75/35 was $139.99.
If it was $124.99 for Ultimate and 50/25 I would have made the jump.
I still need to do the comparison since we may end up dropping TV to Extreme HD. Either that or we will wait 9 months and see what they offer to renew. |

In nine months they will probably charge for prime what extreme costs today |

 | reply to rhdcheme Upgraded to the 75/35 plan on Monday night, up from 35/35. The new speeds were in place this morning.
I'm having a hard time finding a speed test site, that can measure the full bandwidth. VZ's internal test will do it, but even at Speedtest.net, most sites can barely break 70 down (VZ reports 84 down).
Here in the Tampa Bay area, we don't seem to have the best routes. Even my local test sites in Tampa, don't take a direct path, and ping times are often in the 50's. My best path is to Miami (200+ miles from here), and that usually bottoms-out in the mid 20's. So (and I say this in the nicest possible way)...you folks with single-digit ping times, make me sick.
I've been running Ethernet, instead of MoCA, for a little over six months, opting to take the Actiontec router out of line, in the hopes that one less device, would result in a slight improvement in latency (it didn't). Instead, I'm going directly into my Asus RT-N16 router, loaded with dd-wrt. |

The people who seem to be getting better discounts are out of contract. The only discount offered to me was $5 off a month for 2 years regardless of what package I went with.
I swear I saw people getting discounts above and beyond the $5 that weren't in NY especially for faster internet, but maybe I am wrong. |

tl5 join:2006-06-26 united state | reply to jarablue I upgraded to 150/65 this past weekend from 35/35...
Long story short, a VZ tech came out yesterday to swap out my old router for a rev. I and to make a direct ethernet connection from the ONT.
I was not home when this install took place, but when I got home last night and gave the new speeds a whirl, my download was consistently maxing out at ~95mpbs on the speedtest site -- and still is today. Upload seems to be fine though.
Hopefully it's just a provisioning glitch. Guess I gotta pick up the phone and give tech support a call... |

 | reply to tl5 I did the same upgrade and am getting correct speeds. At first I thought I wasn't though. I was using speedtest.net and kept getting around 50 megs down. I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure it out when I remembered seeing not all servers on speedtest.net are capable of 150, so I tried several. I finally found one that gave me the correct speeds. I was kind of pissy at first though!
May optimizer will work for you? Not sure if the tech did it for me as I wasn't home, but he was here a while trying to get it to work. |
